The difference between Traditional Media Option and New Media Option
Media is a form of communication outlet that is used to transfer data to the public domain. Additionally, there are tools used to store or deliver messages through photography, printing, publishing, broadcasting, cinema, and advertising. Therefore, there are two types of media option, firstly there is the traditional media option and the new media option. These types of media options have been used over the years to disseminate information from one place to another. However, there current socio-economic trends have been evolving bring about differences construed between traditional media option and modern media option.
Firstly, several differences can be outlined between traditional media and new media. In new media, the information is mostly conveyed on the internet through the use of various search engine optimizations, advertisements that are pay per click oriented, through email marketing, and social media. Whereas, traditional media is comprised of advertisements through the radio, television, direct mail, print advertisements, billboards, cold calling, and door to door sales. Media is essential in promoting various businesses to thrive. Moreover, the government has found traditional media to be a suitable way of reaching out to people to convey an important message that needs to be perceived(Lin,2019).
In times of crisis, it is hard to ensure that information has reached people through new media options since not so many people are computer literate. As a result, people might not be in a position to perceive the information with the urgency that is required. Moreover, when it comes to new media, the information relayed can be dynamic, it can change from time to time. Information that is relied on traditional media is final and thus it cannot be altered or changed from time to time like new media. On new media, it is hard to change information that has been aired on television. In new media, once a person has posted information on social media, they can edit or retract the statements that they have made, unlike traditional media whereby once the information has been aired, it is hard to change the information or edit it(Lin,2019).
Traditional media does not offer control over a message like new media, Information posted can be filtered or deleted. Moreover, the new media option is based on a two-way conversation platform unlike in traditional media whereby, information is conveyed by a reporter to the public, people are not allowed to critically analyze the information. Whereas, on new media options, individuals can give their opinions about certain sensitive matters that are essential for the welfare of the public. In using a new media platform like social media, a person might be required to spend money to purchase data to access information, unlike traditional media which might not require an individual to spend money to access information (Bolter, 2019).
What is more, the use of new media is effective in promoting business, a person can be able to modify advertisements to suit their needs unlike while advertisements are made on traditional media lie televisions and radio. Nonetheless, potential customers are likely to respond to advertisements promptly on new media, unlike traditional media. New media option is easily accessible unlike traditional media like radio and televisions whereby one has to be in a specific place to be able to access news. By use of smartphones and tablets, an individual can be able to access information easily regardless of the place they are (Ytre-Arne & Das,2019).
New media options cannot be easy being relied upon since people may alter the information available to suit their interests. Thereby, fake news can be used to influence various people across the globe thus can tarnish the image of an organization, company, and individual. New media makes advertisements that are inexpensive unlike advertisements aired on traditional media options and other platforms.
In conclusion, traditional media and new media options are both essential in disseminating information to various parts of the world. Traditional media is essential since people from all walks can access information easily. New media has taken over traditional media in the sense that people spend a lot of time using their smartphones. As a result, individuals get information from social media and other forms of new media options, unlike traditional media options. Besides, new media has brought about the rise of insecurity, immorality, high sexual harassment cases, and other vices that are not conveyed by traditional media since traditional media is one way, thus individuals are not able to alter information.
