- Computers have changed the way we handle information by increasing the way messages are relayed from one place to the other.
- Computers have been able to solve complex problems more quickly by making billions of computations every second.
- Computers are used to guide satellites’ and rockets into space which has expanded the exploration of the earth and beyond the earth.
- Computers are used in aircrafts control.
- Computers have enabled proper control of inventory in banks and other organizations.
- The list is endless
MAIN IDEAS

With the help of these devices, people can conduct business more efficiently and communicate in far distances apart. These technological devices have helped bring the world close together.
- Telecommuting is the act of working from home by the use of the Internet. Through rapid communication and efficient data transmission, professionals can now comfortably work from home. Additionally, investors can conduct their businesses in any place around the globe using their computers, fax and emails. In almost every sector of the economy, the internet gives people in business every information to conduct businesses with no need to live near business offices.
- The main effect of internet growth is the convergence of different cultures in the world. From the developed world outwards, the spread of ideas, fashions and images from one culture to the other has promoted greater awareness and facilitated the sharing of cultural practices and ideas.
SECTION 2
DEFINITION OF TERMS
- Greenhouse effect-it’s also known as global warming, which is characterized by problems caused by industrial pollution in the form of gases such as carbon dioxide, exhaust from factories and automobiles. These gases create a ceiling of a greenhouse that generate heat on the earth’s atmosphere.
- Sustainable development-it is the process of creating economic growth while preserving the environment. Developing countries should mainly achieve this process.
USING OF NOTES
I think the most severe problem is pollution in the atmosphere. When there is air pollution, and global warming, natural resources and energy growth will be affected as well. Hence when the atmosphere is reduced, natural resources and energy can be preserved.
MAIN IDEAS
- The main greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, exhausts from factories and automobiles
- The world community fear the scarcity of clean water, rainforests and energy supplies.
- Renewable sources can be replenished such as wind, water and solar power. Non-renewable sources cannot be replaced, such as coal and oil.
SECTION 3
DEFINITION OF TERMS
- Overpopulation- it refers to a situation where there are too many people for the natural resources for that area to support.
- Bio revolution- it is also known as gene revolution that has led to significant developments, for example, development of genetically altered tomato that ripens more slowly than other tomatoes.
USE OF NOTES
- I think the green revolution combat hunger more effectively than bio revolution. This is because the green revolution mainly focuses on increasing production of food by the use of fertilizers. In contrast, bio revolution alters the genes of a plant, and the chemicals may cause cancerous diseases.
MAIN IDEAS
- Potential causes of famine include overpopulation, forces of nature and war.
- Green revolution requires the use of irrigation and water supply. Hence many African nations are unable to achieve green revolution due to limited supply of water and unable to use the methods of irrigation.
SECTION 4
DEFINITION OF TERMS
- Less developed countries (LDCs) – These are countries that not fully industrialized and are still developing.

- The two main approaches for economic development in LDCs include investments by multinational corporations and grassroots development, which a more localized effort.

These arms have contributed too much conflict in regions with religious, political or ethnic tensions.
- Bioweapons- these are biological weapons such as viruses, bacteria that on invading the body, multiply and eventually ends up killing it. When used as strategic weapons, Bioweapons are incredibly dangerous and can kill a lot of people with their unlimited effects spanning around a wide area.
USING MY NOTES
- Nuclear weapons are the biggest threat to world peace and security. Nuclear weapons are hazardous not only to world peace but also to human survival. Within minutes of a nuclear detonation, the thermal radiation can kill millions of people in an hour time as it happened in Japan during WWII.
MAIN IDEAS
- The growth of the illegal weapons market is a threat to world peace because when these weapons find their way in regions with political, religious and social conflicts, the result is a widespread armed conflict. Also, the illegal weapons would become relatively easy for terrorists to purchase, leading to a widespread of terrorism acts.
- The weapons of mass destruction comprise of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical weapons. These weapons are capable of injuring and killing a large number of people at ago.
- The result of Operation Iraq was the fall of Baghdad and the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s brutal regime.
SECTION 6
SIGNIFICANCE OF TERMS AND NAMES
- Universal Declaration of Human Rights- The declaration defines the goals of human rights for the world community. One of the preamble for the declaration is the need to provide friendly relations between nations.
USING MY NOTES
- Between women and children, I think the group with the greatest development in terms of Human Rights is women. Children in most parts of the world endured forced labour in dangerous working conditions with little or no pay. However, in 1989, the UN established the Convention on the Rights of the Child document, also known as the Magna Carta, which established a framework for the rights of children.
- While the development of human rights has taken significant progress, its, the women who have won its best. Before the 1970s, women were considered inferior to men, poorer, and uneducated. However, after the 1970s, international organizations started to intervene in the Rights of Women. After a great struggle with unwilling governments and societies, the battle was finally won. Women today own property, are much educated and hold important leadership positions across the globe, a feat that seemed so difficult to achieve before the 1970s.
MAIN IDEAS
- Two examples of human rights are political rights and religious rights.
- The three causes of human rights violation are political dissent, religious differences and racial or ethnic hatred.
- There are a number of trends that have raised hopes on the protection of Human Rights;
- Most of the nations in Europe and which were part of the Soviet Bloc have now opened up to allow democratic principles.
- The development of the mass media which have increased humans awareness on human rights abuses.
- The rise of education levels which have provided people with skills to exercise their political rights.
- Development of modern forms of communication networks that have helped Human Rights organizations such as Amnesty International to investigate and report abuses on human rights.
