Project management is a planning technique applied by managers in estimating costs, controlling resources, and allocations of tasks in a project. Organizations have strived to achieve the set objectives hence the need to implement the tool. Due to the increasing project failures, and despite inadequately trained personnel, managers should introduce and implement project management tools in their organizations.
Proper planning is essential in project execution. It ensures that there is a smooth running of operations in a project. A good plan assists the organizations in meeting their deliverables within the set deadline, allocating tasks and resources prioritizing them according to their need’s. Most importantly, it minimizes the wastages of resources and activities. The project teams are aware of their delegated tasks and the set time frames hence minimize delays in executing tasks(Schwalbe and Furlong, 2017). Organizations that implement the plan as mentioned above, too, are assured of successful projects.
There are challenges associated with the planning process in terms of schedules and costs. For instance, limited funds and inadequate resources, which makes it difficult for project managers to achieve their targets. It negatively impacts the recruiting process since organizations are unable to hire and contract the services of skilled and trained employees due to budget constraints(Kerzner, 2017). The shortage of employees contributes to the collision of duties and overreliance on the available workforce. Overdependence on the few skilled staff causes delays in other activities as their roles are crucial and are prioritized, making it difficult to meet the project deadlines. The planning process requires commitment, resources, and ethical leadership that assists in countering the drawbacks faced in the implementation.
The current trends in organizations reveal the need for management to apply the project management planning tool. It minimizes cases of abandoned projects that failed. Management should contract the services of experts to assist them in understanding how the process works and what is required to achieve the objectives.
