The literal meaning of revision is “seeing again.” The primary purpose of revising a piece of work is to have different and various approaches towards the original ideas in the paper. Revision entails fresh thinking about writing from a critical standpoint to come up with other ways of seeing things. On revising my writing, I look up to taking a new approach to giving more meaning to some of the techniques that I used in my original paper. In my second paper, I would change the purpose of the paper to convince people not to believe the meme. This change will involve the use of literal tools like pathos, logos, and ethos in a more practical way to make my work lively (Stucki & Sager, 2018). The other change I would implement is the stance. The views and perspectives on the paper can be approached from different sources that provide various opinions on the topic. The other change to be implemented during the revision is context. It will be difficult to change the minds of readers using the same analogy in the paper. The shift in stance and context go handy with the change of purpose, the three interdepend in writing.
The first step towards revision is reading the original work and identifying why the purpose should change. In this section, I will critically analyze the use of persuasive techniques in the paper. The first paper does not have a compelling language to convince people of the health effect of Coronavirus. The essay is more informative. In a bid to persuade the audience to understand the health effects of Coronavirus, it is good to give narrations, reasons, and examples connecting to refute the meme. My first step in the revision will be to use concrete examples in the paper during revision. The original essay instead generalizes the death and infection statistics. It is difficult for an audience to feel the abstract narrations and texts from a piece of work. Concreate examples give the audience a reasonable ground for connecting with the paper. This technique will make examples concrete and appealing to readers. The other technique of achieving a change of purpose of the paper would be using connotative diction. The first essay does not involve pathos as a technique. Some words have definite emotional meanings attached to them, and I would use them when revising the work to trigger an emotional response in my audience. The successful application of all these techniques will show a transparent standpoint.
To change my stance, I would apply several techniques. This change involves the integration of sources to support my arguments. The purpose of the stance is to show my view to the audience. (Estaji & Tajeddin, 2012). The initial essay does not have a clear stance when taking about Coronavirus originating from bat eating habits in China. In the essay, I did not show whether if the claim is true or just but an opinion. When revising this paper, I will analyze the origin of information before writing it down. Academic writing is not a personal response, so it requires substantive evidence for claims as one tries to build on the ideas of other people. Building on other people’s opinions enables us to see further, as Newton Isaac once said. This technique will eventually paint a clear picture of the standpoint of the writer. In the revision, I will critically analyze the sources that I use when showing my stance. The audience will see that I have knowledge and awareness of what I am writing. Proper referencing will draw a line between a share in the ideas of the sources that I use and my opinions. The successful change of purpose and stance will significantly rely on the format of writing that I use in the revision.
I will also change the context of my work when revising it. The main idea behind context is to send the right message accurately. My original paper did not make the difference between formal and informal writing into consideration. This claim is evident from the sentence structuring to the use of vocabulary, and so on. The first sentence of the first paragraph is incomplete. This example is visible throughout the whole essay. During the revision, I will change the context by using a formal style of writing. Change of context will require the application of formal writing, which subsequently calls for the implementation of several things in the paper. The introduction of my first essay is not enough to illustrate the intentions to the audience. When revising it, I will clearly state the topic on which I am writing. The next approach will be to provide befitting background information as well as the purpose of putting the paper into the right context. Identifying these two components of context will give me leeway of the form and my role in the paper.
