Biggest problem young adults face today
In contemporary society, young adults are facing numerous challenges. Most often, we tend to perceive that every youth is ready to face the real world, including career, college, as well as adult social scenes. However, this is not the case since some young adults find it hard to adjust to their new status. Social media is one of the biggest problems that the youth face today. This has contributed to other challenges, including crime, unemployment, and education all of which have a negative and positive impact in their lives depending on which side they have found themselves in. Society places a burden of expectations on them, which pressures them. They are forced to grow up fast, which makes it hard to transition well from their previous simple life of being under parental care and guidance. The burden is overwhelming in such a way that some have lost control and have committed suicide as a form of escape. This essay strives to discuss social media as the biggest challenge facing young adults today and its solutions.
The current millennial generation has grown in the presence of increased use of social media, which has influenced their lives immensely. Social media exposes people to body image issues that impact one’s self-esteem. There is plenty of social media content that makes people question their worth in society. However, the content is mainly fake as people do not want to expose the moments when their lives are at worst while creating a picture of a glamorous life to the followers. Such content makes young adults perceive themselves as being failures in society.
Consequently, since social media has prompted young adults to despise themselves, they have to do everything in their power to attain their dreams fast. This might prompt some to indulge themselves in criminal activities. Although criminal activities from the youth have been at a downward trend in the United States, they still get targeted by the police compared to other groups. However, to them, criminal activities are increasing, and many people believe so. Crime is driven by the notion that they can be rich easily, as seen from their peers who flout their wealth on social media. This makes the young adults desire to make it in life real quick by using shortcuts that drive them to indulge in criminal activities.
Additionally, social media has negated the importance of education in achieving success in life. Education has always been viewed as the best way to attain a brighter future upon completion of studies. However, this is not exactly the case nowadays as there are many people out there who have made it in life without the necessity of studies. This is coupled with increasing unemployment or possible low wage earnings once they enter the job market. Many young adults get demotivated as a result. Hence, some might try other means to realize their dream. In most cases, they try to copy some social media celebrities and tend to join careers that would earn them easy money once they make it. Some of these careers include music, sports, and business. However, once they fail to make it, their life is tattered and might end in a downward spiral.
However, it is essential to solve this issue collectively as a society. Trying to create personal awareness helps one to deal with these challenges. This eliminates low self-esteem as they have a positive view of themselves. Also, participating in sports allows a young adult to shape their identity rather than getting involved in bad habits. Criminal activities might emerge due to too much social media exposure, and getting into sports can make one get away from that pressure. With a clear mind, they can definitely pursue a realistic dream and make it in their adult lives.
In conclusion, social media is the biggest problem facing young adults today. It has made them question themselves as they struggle to make it in life. Their self-esteem might be affected badly while their perception of education as a way to attain success is negated. Criminal nations are also shaped by social media. However, such challenges need a solution, such as enabling them to have personal awareness and involve them in sports.
