The justification for the variation on tone
The representative sample is similar to the other samples used in the paper. First, all the samples use Formal language. The language used is formal English, thus can be easily understood. Also, all the samples have a well-articulated Cohesion of ideas. The writers strung the ideas in an easily comprehensible manner and are appealing to the readers. However, despite being formal in structure, there is a slight variation in the samples’ tone. Pete Wells, for instance, has some instances of a semi-formal tone.
The justification for the variation on tone is that different writers appeal to their readers differently. As such, a writer may prefer inputting a seemingly informal or semiformal phrase or word to push some points.
The textual features which must be included in the text are restaurant-specific language, effective tone, and efficient use of the points of view as well as language formality. The use of cohesive devices is not well cemented. While cohesive devices are important for connecting ideas, writers can creatively bypass their application, as noted in the representative sample, while still remaining comprehensible.
Omitting the optional text features could mean abstract representation of information. One should only omit the optional text features if they represent the information as accurately as it would have been had they included the features.
Conclusion
The restaurant review genre is a genre which evaluates restaurants across various dimensions. Analyzing texts under the genre gives one the ability to understand review writers’ lines of thought and maybe recommend strategies of improving. This paper having analyzed three articles, notes that it is crucial for writers to put down their reviews using the right tone, use all textual features appropriately, and appeal to their readers.
