Occupational Safety and Health Act was first enacted in 1970, congress, under the presidency of Richard Nixon. During that year, over 14,000 fatalities were reported. OSHA was a result established to set and reinforce workplace standards. Currently, the vast majority of occupations have a relatively safer working environment. Both in private and public industries, current reports show that death occurs or happens in every 36 employees out of 10,000 employees on a yearly basis. In some industries, no matter how safety standards are, fatalities and accidents are always there. The majority of the dangerous occupations and industries involve or require the use of heavy machines and equipment, working with hazardous substances as well as working in dangerous environments.

Dangerous occupations and industries in terms of accidents

According to the recent reports from various bodies involved in work safety and work standards, the ranking of the most dangerous industries and occupations in terms of accidents vary from one body to the other (Lientz, 2013). Here is the list of the most dangerous industries in terms of accidents.

Construction

This industry is one of the largest industries in the world, consisting of various industries such as civil engineering, building, maintenance, and demolition. Potential dangers that lead to accidents in this industry crushes from vehicles falls from high heights and many other risks. Mining occupation is considered the most hazardous occupation in the world. Workers in this occupation face are frequently changing workplaces. All kinds of hazards from health, safety, and environment are more common (Breiger, 2015). Accidents happen as a result of vibration and noise, toxic gases. Rock falls, explosion, and fire are the most common cause of accidents and injuries in this occupation.

Also, this policy is useful since it helps in decreasing the number of incidents that are likely to happen in the workplace.

Promote the safety and health of employees. This policy is essential and useful in many aspects since it reduces incidents of injuries and illness among the company employees (Lientz, 2013). Employees are trained and educated on workplace practices, procedures so as to prevent or curb possible illnesses and injuries from improper practices.

Provide basic information to employees about safety and health hazards. This policy provides employees with basic information about the importance of ensuring their own safety and wellness (Lientz, 2013). Hence it is useful since employees will be aware of hazards or danger of not ensuring their own safety.

Safety policy for a company

The company is interested in the employees’ safety and health. Protecting individuals from injuries or diseases is the main objective of the company. The company will make the necessary efforts for employees to work in a safe and healthy environment (Breiger, 2015). All employees and managers must, therefore, work to minimize or reduce the incidence of illness and injuries.

As an employer, it is the ultimate duty or responsibility to ensure employees are healthy and safe (Breiger, 2015). As the company CEO, I will ensure every precautionary measure is taken by all workers.

Managers, as well as supervisors, are responsible for the safety and health of employees under them. They ensure that machines and other types of equipment’ are safe and works or employees comply with safety procedures and practices (Breiger, 2015). Workers or employees have to get enough training in order to ensure the protection of their safety and health
