Chapter 7: Mission Comman
Chapter seven
Chapter seven begins by expounding on the relationship existing between the soldiers and the NCO. The binding factors herein are categorized as mutual trust and shared goals. Mutual trust is an imperative aspect of the training since the character building is anchored in mutual trust. Besides, for the leaders and tutors to commit to the coaching activities, there’s a need to understand the trainee’s level of confidence. Moreover, the trainees themselves must equally obey and trust their leaders to achieve the common goal of appropriate training. Trustworthy further fortifies the cohesion and the predictability between the leaders and the trainers.
Several aspects are attached to the virtues of trust by both trainees and the leaders, building professional soldiers whose faith and duties delved in accountability and the zeal of initiative has been developed through these aspects of trust and cohesion. The chapter also explains that the NCOs are pivotal in the critical decision-making areas that help the leaders in running the training (Herald, 2020). The NCOs are also imperative as they act as the `backbone of the army.’ They are senior members that are responsible for helping the commanders in discipline matters.
Roles defined: the purposes of the sergeant are summarized and seen as the junior-most in the rank of the soldiers. There are 1 sergeant, platoon leaders, commanding sergeant and many more. Below are some of the roles given to the authorities of the army units and the training.
- The roles of the NCOs delved into their relationship with the commissioned officer. The duties at this level are quite similar and it is the responsibility of every officer to understand their roles to avoid further confusion.
- The President’s office well stipulates the role of commissioned officers; therefore, they are the representatives of the President of the United States in smaller units of the army. Besides, formulated laws, ethics and regulations that define the jurisdiction of the said commissioned officers within the military unit has been put in place
- NCOs are controlled by army regulations too. For this reason, they also act as support to the command authority.
- The need to understand the roles of a commissioned officer is essential too. They are commanders and the policymakers within a unit; they are leaders and trainers of the teams of soldiers.
- The commissioned officers also follow the orders of the NCOs through the command channel; they are also responsible for separating the soldiers for a particular duty. The commissioned officers are also viewed as the most capable soldiers and are also responsible for mission completion.
- The development of the soldier’s standards and keeping their keen eyesight on the activities of the soldiers is an essential role of the commissioned officers. For the US army to advance in every aspect of their operations, the co-operation, quality and professionalism are emphasized.
- The e
xpectation from different departments

Officers should protect the families and also display the character of work and social life balance in an amicable manner.

The role of fairness in the job during service is to be championed by the NCOs.
The role of general accountability is also an imperative duty of the NCOs.
The NCOs are expected by the officers to displayed courage towards their duties during their services.
While the above is the expected complementary roles between the officers and the NCOs, there are still more areas that encourage the mutual respect between the officers, the NCOs and other members of the units. These are; Expectations of a platoon sergeant leader from a sergeant.
They are integrating the PL and the PLGs to have a mutual goal, towards achieving their mission in the services they provide as soldiers.
The other important role of the PL is a display or portrayal of a high level of maturity in decision making that brings teamwork.
They have to realize areas of the imbalance in terms of the experience of the soldiers.
The PLs are the squad leaders who liars with the NCOs for their smooth operations in the army.
A platoon leader, in turn, expects the following form a Platoon Sergeant. They must work mutually with the PSG to develop recognizable, Realistic and achievable goals in their units.
- The army strongly bonds through the leadership provided by both the commissioned officers and the NCOs.
- AR 600-20 defines the relationship between the junior officers and the NCOs; through the code, a mutual understanding has is created in which both the junior and senior officers have a shared responsibility.
The NCOs are with the responsibility of developing and instructing the second lieutenants and their commanders. The army leads in terms of the number of employees in the defense (Grinston, 2020). The training culminates in the best discipline and characteristics that are protecting both army and the civilians. DOD is a significant sector in the United States of America. The safety of the millions of US citizens is entrusted in the services provided by the DOD. The US has faced security challenges in the recent past, both internally and externally. Terrorism from groups within and without America has continued to pose security threats to the American citizens.
The training is a mitigation measure for the United States government to reduce the chances of the attack in the US Soil. In spite existence of the FBI, SWAT, and the department of homeland security, the army has also helped in the internal security issues. The services of these groups are always seen as significant combats. This is majorly a great misunderstanding as there are several other duties that these units are charged with. Through the study, it is evident that the army management is as a tire system with levels such as strategic leadership, organizational leadership and direct leadership. All these systems of army governance play a pivotal role in the success of the department of defense.
