It is no exaggeration that just like the previous US presidents, the current US president has a lot at hand to address or rather to take a closer look at with respect to the current social, political and religious dispensation. The US president has outlined various plans to deal with the current pressing issues that include; the budget issues (deficit), the HealthCare system, national security, immigration, foreign policy, social programs, law and justice, energy and environment, Veterans and Education, and most importantly the issue of the Coronavirus pandemic (Whitehouse.gov. (n.d.). Issues., 2020)
The US Healthcare
It does not go unnoticed that the US healthcare system is unique in comparison with other advanced industrialized countries across the globe. Unsurprisingly, however, this does not imply that the US Healthcare is seamless and efficient; it does have a lot of significant challenges. In essence, the US does not have a uniform Healthcare system as well as universal healthcare coverage and it is for this reasons that most Americans are of the opinion that the US healthcare is in need of a complete overhaul but of great importance to note is that the president lacks a proper plan of how well to transform or streamline this system. Most notably, in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic that has wreaked havoc on the country, the US HealthCare system has been badly exposed in terms of how inefficient and inflexible it is when it comes to addressing serious outbreaks. Looking more into most Medicare and Medicaid programs that have been rolled out by the government since the 1960s in good intentions, these programs have always skyrocketed in regard to costs and deteriorated in terms of consumer preferences (Bohmer, 2018). On the other hand, the Obama administration also in a bid to restore the US Healthcare outlined a program (Obamacare) which aimed at expanding the Medicaid program as well as pushing for an elimination of the private insurance through government mandates, but ultimately the push escalated the Healthcare problems further. However, the current president blames the Obama administration for destroying the country’s Healthcare and has therefore rolled out his plans to restore US Healthcare.
Although not much has been done to address this issue, President Trump has advocated various measures towards the restoration of the US Healthcare system. The president has continued with his push to both repeal Obamacare and lower the prescription drug costs. In, addition the president budget request proposal for the fiscal year 2021 portrays numerous plans for the US Healthcare. The president has proposed various significant changes to the Medicaid program that aims at relatively reducing the overall spending on the health program by the poor and disabled. More broadly, the president also outlines that all the Medicaid beneficiaries will be subjected to a number of issues, such as asset tests to verify eligibility. Thirdly, the president also looks to expand the Medicaid coverage by allowing states the option of covering the inpatient care for both drug addicts and psychiatric patients. On the Medicare program, the president has, through the budget(FY 2021), proposed the decision of allowing Americans who are over 65 years to opt-out of Medicare program if they want to. Finally, the president has called on Congress to pass legislation that will see the prices of prescription drugs reduce, and this will consequently go a long way in reducing consumer spending. Despite all this, controversy still exists on whether the proposals brought forward by the president in a bid to redeem the Healthcare system will restore the Country’s Healthcare as many people are of the opinion that the US Healthcare system needs a complete overhaul if not more money from Washington.
