The infection Reaches the City.
In this part of the reading, Defoe explains the behavior of the people before an epidemic reached their city. Everything in the neighborhood continued smoothly in the usual manner, even when their neighbors had all been affected. People did not restrict their movements and continued to travel to other towns where the rate of infection was high. He describes the careless action as terrible and worrying to see, and it was a sign that a future danger would come. The movements of people outside the city made the author fear for what would happen if everyone was gone. The haste movement made people press each other as they were looking for an exit way. People came into close contact in the doorways. Many people feared government orders that would put barriers and restrict people’s movement.
Personal Reflection of the Text
The occurrence written in the text was a reflection of what happened after the covid-19 disease emerged. People at first were very ignorant of the disease. People in the towns and cities where the disease had not reached were behaving normally. Many people thought it was a disease that could affect only certain groups of people. They were myths that stated only certain age groups and races could get infected. When the disease further spread in the cities, people started to tense and acted in agony. They became overly fearful of the disease and began to act in ways that could increase the rate of disease spread. To save their lives, works, and families, they ignored the practices that contributed to the transmission of the disease. The people traveled and gathered more.
