The impacts of poverty can be hazardous since its cause is a lack or limited supply of nutritious and healthy foods. In Canada, poverty has impacted negatively on food security, health, and housing. One in ten individuals cannot afford quality health care and their prescription even though Canada is the leading industrialized country in the World with sizeable universal healthcare systems. Also, about four million Canadians experience food security, while one in eight individuals struggle to have food on their tables. Food insecure people are most likely to develop diabetes ad; 60 % have reported high blood pressure. About 3 million Canadians live in unaffordable housings whose conditions are uncalled for. Majority of poor people in Canada experience homelessness, the majority of which come from racially discriminated backgrounds, socially alienated groups, and those single parented mostly by women.

 

Poverty-stricken families and communities cannot meet proper housing standards, healthy eating, clean water, and medical attention. In order to avoid poverty, about 47% of poor Canadians ought to get enough money to not only afford the basic needs but also to ensure they live in safer environments with the right conditions. Being able to possess a social life enables the prior alienated poor people to feel part of society and meet their essential needs. Women should be given priority in anti-poverty plans to allow them to escape violent situations, obtain a quality education, and adequately take care of their families. By empowering women, the entire community is empowered. To ensure women are salvaged from abject poverty and boost the economy. A woman’s economic independence increases their status and stature within and outside her household. Community-based organizations such as COMUCAP have been formulated to help women regain dignity, overcome poverty, and live peacefully.
