Knowledge is something an individual accumulates through learning. Many people, especially students, go to school to get knowledge—understanding, on the other hand, what an individual knows because they have lived through it. Direct experience with people or events gives one an understanding. Unlike in knowledge where one has to acquire t through learning, understanding comes with experience. One can have both knowledge and understanding. An individual can also use their understanding to acquire knowledge.
Worth knowing is when students have to know different things after completing their learning. They need to be self-sufficient and understand different ideas. Students also need to have knowledge of different things and how they can locate things or ideas that they do not understand. Most of the knowledge taught in schools is also known as worth knowing because it what the learners need to know. Worth knowing also entails the learners to apply what they have learned in class in their daily activities (White, 2005).
Learning is when an individual acquires or gains knowledge through study, experience, or being taught. Through learning, one can get knowledge or can develop an understanding of something. Learning happens every day in a person’s life, whether at school or home. Learning is a social process that can be more or less directly with other people. It begins from simple to complex as an individual grows. The more an individual learns, the more they become confident in life.
An individual can know learning is or has taken place when the teacher involves the students in the process of learning. For instance, the teacher can ask the learners to explain or elaborate on something; it shows that learning is taking place. When learners ask questions out of curiosity or where they do not understand also indicates that learning is taking place. Through discussions and asking learners different questions also explains that learning is taking place.
In a classroom situation, a teacher has several roles. For instance, they create the classroom environment. They also mentor, nurture, and direct students in class and their lives. They act as role models to their learners and the society at large. They also observe, look, and listen for any signs of trouble from students (Ministry of Education, 2020).
Students play a crucial role in education. Their purpose is to listen to the teacher, interact with teachers and fellow students, and also participate in different discussions involving learning. They also need to participate in various school activities which they desire.
The ultimate purpose of education is to open up the minds of students and assist them in their future life. Education helps to prepare students to face the world. It also equips them with the ability to make a life they desire in the future. It gives students skills and techniques they may need in their life as adults.
My core educational values are having a sense of hope for students, having mutual responsibility for my work so that I can assist the students in their learning. Having a sense of hope also helps in understanding and using different techniques of teaching for different students. The hope also assists in knowing that students are different, and therefore, their level of understanding is different. Understanding each student and their abilities are also my core value as a teacher.
