Participative management is whereby all the employees are allowed to participate in the decision making processes taking place within the organization. One of the main advantages of participative management is that lower-level employees can have to say on the decisions which are made in the organization. Most of the time, low-level employees are considered to be the most sensitive in the organization since they are directly involved in essential activities. This means that they are the ones who face the daily challenges. Through participative management programs, the junior employees will be able to point out those challenges, and the necessary measures are taken. Through this, they get motivated since they are involved in the decision making processes. Through participative management, the employees talk about the difficulties they pass through, how they need their salaries to get increased and the other related problems. Through this, the employees feel that they are part of the organization and become a source of motivation and satisfaction.

The five steps of energy that are commonly used in the business firm or organization include; legitimate, referent, coercive, reward, and expert. Legitimate power is described as the power that is given through the hierarchy of the organization. Under this type of power, individuals are granted power based on their positions. In most cases, the power breaks down from the top level to the low level of management. Legitimacy power is also referred to as the authoritative power.

Referent power is the one that is granted because of your respect and your style of work being admired by many people.

Reward power is the one that is given as a reward for a certain achievement. The most hardworking employees should be given power over the other employees as a way of rewarding them.

Coercive power is the one that uses excessive force or threats. This kind of power is also described as the power that makes people carry out their tasks because they fear the threats from the one giving the orders.

Expert power is the power that is granted to an individual because he has the knowledge and skills of a certain task than anyone else.

From the five types of powers, my supervisor uses the legitimacy power whereby he is granted the authority by the culture of the organization whereby the power starts from the top positions downwards.

Different firms have been using different strategies to motivate and keep their hardworking employees. The first strategy is giving them incentives. The incentives may be in the form of money or other material possessions. Under this case, the company may decide to add some extra amount on top of their salaries or give them houses. The incentives may also be given information about gain- sharing plans, profit-sharing plans, and pay-for-knowledge plans. The company may also decide to give things like social security services, free health facilities, food, clothes, and also paying their children the school fees.
