Happy story
Among our many members that have walked through our doors, we are fortunate to tell the story of an individual known by the name of Dorette Burton who needs assistance with obtaining her security certification as she is a school crossing guard. Like many others, she was of lost hope and the aspect of living a happy life was a thing of the past not to be seen again. However, through our many successful and effective programs such as the Day Hab program, the Community Habilitation program, the supported employment together with the respite program we were able to turn her life around.
The first step was to make sure that we were able to give her life meaning before embarking on anything else. Therefore, the respite program was a big help as it made sure that Dorette Burton was able to fully heal from the traumatic experience resulting from a failed marriage, divorce, losing her job among other things that made her life not worth living at the time (according to her). Thereafter, we began the process of fast-tracking her security certification as this provided the means for her to get back to work and make a living for herself together with her children. Additionally, through acquiring her job, she would be able to share custody with her ex-husband who has at the moment attained full custody because Dorette Burton is not able to acquire any form of employment as a result of her security certification not being valid. This process proved successful and this ensured that the prog of supported employment was able to be completed. Lastly, we were able to help her secure housing as she had lost her previous accommodations to her husband and children while the other to mortgage loans which she was not able to keep up with the payments because of the lack of a job.
This success story was among the best we have received this year and we could not wait to share it with you.
