Team Design
Team Management
As a team, discuss the following question: if you were a manager who had to design a team, what would you consider when designing a team.
Team design is critical in determining the performance of the team. Many of the companies have failed for lack of a team which can effortlessly coordinate together and come up with a well-executed task. The team does not only include selecting the best team members, but there are many other factors which incorporate in designing a better and well-performing team.
As a manager, there are several factors to consider when designing a team. First, is having a clear mission of the task to be conducted by the team. A clear mission is set to define the purpose of the team. Therefore, the team members will have something collectively to do through achieving the selected goals (Carter et al., 2019). Secondly, team membership. Team membership is people who are entitled to join the team. As the manager is should have the mission and the vision of the team. Therefore, with the mission, I will be able to identify which member is appropriately performing a particular role. Every member I will be selecting to joining the team I will be confident of the position he or she is entitled to perform. Besides, I would consider team skill diversity. Skill diversity is a critical factor in team membership. A team required people who have different skills to improve innovation and invention.
Thirdly, as a manager, I would consider the team norms; this includes mutual learning behaviours. When addressing team norms refers to the expectations which the team members share on how they relate with each other. The team norms are primarily associated with the culture of the team. For instance, a team may consider honouring time as a show of respect to the team. Therefore, when designing a team, it is essential to consider the team norms. This is essential to avoid any conflict among the team members (Stewart & Carter, 2018).
