Coronavirus (BIO)
COVID-19
1) What are the main sources of information available to you on the new coronavirus prevention and treatment?
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, it is necessary to have credible and reliable sources of information. The main sources of information that are available to me are; The World Health Organization since they give reliable global information concerning the coronavirus. The second main source is the Centers for Disease Control: (Coronavirus 2019). Moreover, Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Centers, which gives global and national data in regard to coronavirus, is another reliable source. Finally, CIDRAP, which gives reliable information, particularly on coronavirus prevention and treatment, is another source.
What information would you like to know about the new coronavirus disease? Are there any specific groups of people who are struggling to access this information?
I would like to know a number of things about coronavirus. First is that I would want to know the exact incubation period about the coronavirus. Secondly, I would want to know the prevalence of coronavirus among young and elderly adults. Moreover, I would want to understand the symptoms of coronavirus and particularly whether there are individuals who are asymptomatic. Lastly, I would like to know if people with pre-existing conditions are more vulnerable to becoming more ill with coronavirus. In as much as everyone seems to be struggling to get information, some special groups are by far struggling to access this information, and they include; people living with disabilities (deafblind community) as well as marginalized communities who are living in poverty.
3) In your opinion, what are the main questions, doubts, and fears about the new coronavirus in your circle of friends or family?
Many questions remain unanswered among my circle of friends and family. One is that most of my friends ask whether coronavirus affects everyone or just a specific group. Also, most of my friends and family often ask how long it takes one to fully recover from this virus. Lastly, the question “how important is contact tracing, and how does it help?” is another important question. Moreover, my close friends and family have two important doubts. One is that most friends doubt the fact that quarantine can help in containing the surge of coronavirus. They also doubt the fact that the incubation period of coronavirus can be up to 14 days. Most of my friends and family members fear that coronavirus might result in deaths and, more importantly, lead an economic turmoil.
In your opinion, what community activities do you think are most effective for the prevention of the new coronavirus?
There are various measures and activities that can be undertaken in a bid to flatten the coronavirus curve or rather curb its spread—in my opinion, practicing social distancing, regular washing of hands, minimizing movements (staying at home), covering one’s nose while sneezing or coughing and more importantly following the directives of government health authorities and global health authorities such as WHO are the most effective activities.
