Laws to Protect Prison Inmates from Covid-19
The coronavirus pandemic has been a challenge to many aspects of human life whose origin has been linked to Wuhan in China. The disease has resulted in many negative effects such as death and decline in economic progress. Just as the virus has affected other people around the globe, prison inmates are also under the same threat. In this regard, we shall focus discuss on the measures a lawmaker needs to address to ensure the prison inmates are protected from the dangerous covid-19 virus.
One of the laws that I will draft if the mandatory quarantine for all the arrested people before they are put in prisons. This will help to avoid the chances of the new inmates who may be infected with the virus, taking the pandemic to other inmates (Manson et al., 2020). After the success quarantine period of 14 days, all should be tested on the virus before they join the other inmates to serve their jail terms. Thus this measure will help in avoiding the chances of the virus affecting the prison inmates. In this regard, I will push for the law to be adopted in all the prisons to ensure the prisoners are protected.
The prison wardens and other prisons staff need to use face masks and sanitizers to minimize the chances of spreading the virus to the inmates. The law will make it mandatory for all these people to wear face masks and wash their hands using alcohol-based sanitizers. This measure will help to protect the inmates from contracting the virus from the people who interact with the outside world.
In conclusion, the two laws, if followed strictly, will serve to protect the inmates from the global pandemic. The prison inmates are important just like other people in the fact that after serving their terms, they have their lives to live. It is my wish that the above measures are followed strictly to protect prison inmates from the deadly virus.
