Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the variety of life that can be found on earth, which consists of plants, fungi, animals, and micro-organisms, as well as to the communities that they form and the habitats in which they live. Biodiversity is the pillar that allows Eco-systems to function and survive and humans to thrive. There are three main types of biodiversity, which are as follows: Diversity within species (genetic diversity), diversity between species (species diversity), and diversity between Eco-systems (Eco-system diversity). Biodiversity loss is the extinction of species (plant or animal) worldwide or loss of species in a particular habitat. There are five major causes of biodiversity loss, and they are as follows: Climate change, Over-exploitation, Deforestation and habit loss, Pollution, and Invasive species.

The following can be done to prevent biodiversity loss: We start by looking at Government legislation. Governments have the power to control and protect the habitats in the country and what is done to them. Protecting habitats before they have been altered is the best form of biodiversity. Another way of preventing biodiversity loss is by putting up nature reserves. These are a form of government regulation and are often known as national parks. They protect a region and the organisms that live there, and this is excellent because it protects the natural habitat and the Eco-system that can be viewed by people. Another way of preventing biodiversity loss is habitat restoration. After an area is damaged by human impacts, we can try to return it to its natural state. This means bringing back plants and animals that are naturally found there. The restoration can be undertaken by governments, NGOs, and local organizations. Another way of preventing biodiversity loss is by reducing the number of invasive species. Invasive species are sometimes introduced to a region on purpose while sometimes it may be on accident. This number needs to be reduced to prevent biodiversity loss.

In conclusion, we must be able to protect the various varieties of life to prevent biodiversity loss.
