Developing Health Education Programs

Good health habits are vital for the development of children, and they should be encouraged to prevent future health complications or chronic conditions. As a nurse, I have to provide elementary school students with seamless, comprehensive health services to ensure that they stay healthy (Kolbe, 2019). Among the problems that have been noted are obesity, inactivity and lack of knowledge of healthy food choices which will require an action plan to solve.

Healthy eating and physical activities are the main factors to put in place in instances where several children are suffering from obesity or are at risk of being victims of obesity. The plan of action to help this elementary school make more healthy choices for their students will include the following (Centeio et al., 2018). First educate the parents, students and the staff the importance of healthy food choices in life and the dangers that come with unhealthy eating. This is meant to create awareness and ensure that everyone has knowledge of healthy food choices.

Secondly, the need for physical activities, keeping the children active is suitable for their physical and psychological development (Gill et al., 2019). The action plan will insist on daily physical education to keep the children active. Thirdly, those children suffering from obesity should have an extra special programme where they undergo treatment to help them manage their condition. Their programme will consist of special diets, physical activities and among other medical interventions.

The best method of assessment, intervention, and evaluation that can be used to bring change in this elementary school and how they do their things will be the quantitative assessment method. This method of assessment is appropriate in this situation as it is objective, accurate, easy and fast. With this method, one can conduct a holistic evaluation of a situation resulting in convergent reasoning, and through the various data collection methods one uses a variety of ideas on the problem and solutions is reached (Kolbe, 2019). Using quantitative assessment method will allow for further investigation of the issues in the elementary school. Also, the results gotten from the research are easy to understand and interpret, which makes the method the best to use.

In sum, nurses are obligated with the duty of ensuring that the community they are working in is healthy and has knowledge and information on how to prevent health complications. Children and their parents need to be taught about the healthy lifestyle so that they can develop into healthy adults and prevent chronic conditions caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices.
