Discoveries Children Make
Name
Institution’s Name
Learning Schemes
These are activities that help children determine the properties of objects and how they are used. In the initial stages, stages use mouthing, banging candling and shaking in the quest to discover objects. The discoveries help them determine how things work. As they grow, they stop using some schemes. They also develop schemes related to how people act, e.g. associating music and dancing
Cause and Effect
In their activities, children learn that events and outcomes can be caused and they learn o cause things themselves. They, therefore, search for ways to make things work. The relationship between cause and effect is obscure to them initially, but they eventually get the connection.
Use of Tools
Tools are anything children use to meet their needs. They utilize different tools as a means of an end. These would include body tools like crying, use of caregivers as tools by depending on them to accomplish some of their tasks and the use of objects like tools too. Also, children form ideas which they can use to meet their needs.
Object Permanence
Children eventually learn that objects can be permanent. This ability is developed via repeated exposure. They learn that objects still exist even when taken out of sight. This teaches them to search for things. Object permanence also has an emotional component as children learn, for instance, of the existence of their mother even when away
Understanding Space
The idea of objects moving in space fascinates children. Here, they also learn to identify objects in space besides knowing that close by objects can be reached out to. Exploration of space teaches such things as shapes, sizes, gravity and balance.
Imitation
Children learn a great deal of information by imitation. They imitate familiar things, rhythms, conversations, facial expressions and gestures. Imitation teaches social values such as communication and sharing activities.
How to use Knowledge in Support of Cognitive Development
Teachers can use knowledge of children’s activities to help them better interact with children. They will be able to accord children time and space to explore ad learn their environments, thus leading to proper cognitive development. By expressing sensitivity to their plays, teachers encourage children to continue I their developmental processes.
