Value of Cognitive Diversity

In attempts to explain human behaviour, diversity is an important aspect to take into consideration. Diversity involves the study of people behaviour and taking into account the fact that there are intra-individual differences between people which arise in people in a typical situation. Variety is therefore considered as a basis for varied behaviour displayed by humans. People are embracing diversity, and it can be studied by using the cognitive approach, which dissects various human behaviour and gives a more elaborate explanation.

The cognitive approach in exploring human behaviour suggests that behaviour is learnt by repeated exposure to certain stimuli which initiate a person’s cognitive senses, so how a person processes the stimuli is crucial in dictating the resulted outcome in terms of behaviour. Because people process stimuli differently, therefore, the cognitive approach is noted to observe different reactions. The cognitive approach focuses on understanding thoughts and emotions which dictate behaviour and which can be problematic for individuals to understand why they behave in specific ways (Pöyhönen, 2017). Therefore it can be concluded that there is cognitive diversity among people, and it is responsible for varied perspectives on issues depending on how various individuals’ process information.

In the past many years since it was noted that the cognitive approach gives a better explanation on human behaviour cognitive psychology has been developed to a great extent, and it has given significantly impressive results (Pöyhönen, 2017).The cognitive aspect has added so much value because by understanding how the human mind processes information. Therefore, social workers and other people can now understand how certain information makes the other person feel, and this has contributed significantly to the ability to be in another person’s shoes and project an expected reaction.

People even at workplaces have varied personalities as a result of cognitive diversity, and this has been explored in explaining why pooling efforts at a workplace can yield disaster, or it can cause the greater success of the company. Cognitive diversity results tell why there are varied perspectives, all which, when taken into consideration help in sound decision making (Pöyhönen, 2017). Models were developed to explain how the human cognitive system influences human behaviour and social interactions, and this has played a significant role in putting in place strategies that can be applied to rehabilitate an individual’s behaviour because now it is understood better. Diversity is taken into consideration, so the help given is tailored to meet those specific individual’s need as it can be witnessed in therapy.

Therefore, in conclusion, diversity has been embraced in attempts to explain human behaviour, and the cognitive aspect has helped define the basis of diversity. Cognitive approach has added more value to explaining human behaviour because it gives an insight into an individual’s thought process, which consequently affects human behaviour. The cognitive aspect has been of great value in coming up with strategies to help in human behaviour modification, for instance, in therapy cases. Also, the cognitive approach has helped in business institutions and other organization where group work has been more embraced because now people understand that human behaviour is diverse. The different thought process contributes significantly to getting impressive results when every individual’s action is taken into account when pooling efforts during a project. The human behaviour is dictated by the thought process and therefore, for an excellent understanding of their practice. The cognitive approach has brought to the knowledge of behaviour developers the key intra-individual differences that were earlier on being generalized, making the study of human behaviour not entirely inclusive.
