A change in practice is a crucial part of the evidence translation process

A change in practice is a crucial part of the evidence translation process. However, it is relevant to note that it requires resources. Some of the resources include financial, time, and human resources. Consequently, a DNP practice scholar needs to plan appropriately and in advance to ensure the intervention’s success. In this case, the intervention involves implementing an awareness program. Accordingly, I engaged a nurse manager at a local healthcare facility to develop an outline of the potential costs that may arise

Based on the conversation we had, we determined that it was necessary to phase the change in practice into two. The first aspect would focus on local healthcare settings, while the second would center on the community level. In the former, the awareness program would be relatively cheap because it would primarily involve distributing pamphlets with the relevant information to individuals that visit a local healthcare facility—printing such resources will not be costly because some of the centers may use their in-house resources like printers. However, the DNP scholar would have to facilitate the acquisition of items such as printing paper and ink, an endeavor which we estimated could cost up to $1000. Healthcare providers would be co-opted into the program to provide further information to their clients on the awareness initiative.

At the community level, which also includes educating school-going children, the costs would be relatively higher. The justification for this view is that apart from the resources required to print and distribute the educational material, the DNP scholar would also need facilities like halls. However, it is possible to work with local and community authorities to provide such resources for free or at a lower cost. Thus, we put the estimated value of this initiative at $4000, bringing the total cost to $5000.
