Hello class,
For this week’s discussion, I am interested in the problem of drug addiction in youth in Wylie, Texas. Wylie is among the cities that are experiencing high rates of drug addiction in youth in the country. Many youths in this city have become dependent on various types of substances that have stimulating and narcotic effects. The life of addicts gets damaged almost in all aspects, as most of them lose contact with their families. Drug addicts spend large sums of money on drugs, and they mostly look for ways to earn money illicitly. The city government has come up with ways of curbing the problem by building rehab facilities.
The youth are most affected by drug addiction in this city. They mostly consume street drugs such as crack, cocaine, heroin, meth, and cocaine. They attribute their drug consumption to high levels of stress in college and lack of employment. Some start smoking and drinking alcohol due to high peer pressure. Other youths are emotionally weak and tend to use drugs to feel free. They make drug consumption a routine that leads to addiction. Drug abuse among the youth in Wylie is also due to exposure to drug abuse, whereby young people stay with adults who use drugs.
The high rate of drug consumption among the youth has become detrimental to society in Wylie. Several young people engage in the use of drugs when they fail to deal with personal problems. Drug addiction causes psychological effects that are difficult to endure. Drugs have dangerous impacts on the mind, and an individual becomes dependent on them. For this reason, drug addicts need to be treated for their condition. Despite the addicts having full information on drug effects on their health and society, they consume them regularly since it becomes a brain disease.
The challenge facing the reduction of drug use in youth can be due to several factors. Some youth decline the idea of going to rehabilitation centers. The refusal to for rehab can be attributed to youth addicts denying to recognize their problem and blame others for their choices. Others have withdrawal fear in that they fear to encounter the probable symptoms of not using the drugs anymore. Lack of sufficient support from families and friends renders some isolated. The guilt of shame keeps haunting individuals battling with addiction, making it hard for them to admit that they have a problem. Lastly, some do not know whether there are rehabilitation centers in the city, or they can’t just determine the place fit for them.
An adage says prevention is better than cure. The city of Wylie needs to deal with drug addiction in youth with a lot of seriousness. Understanding the root causes of drug addiction among many youths is the best way of approaching the treatment to produce the required outcomes. Conferences on drug abuse can be held in various parts of Wylie to educate the youth and encourage the ones that already addicted to seek rehabilitation services. The Purdue Global Writing Center information resources help me to understand the gist of argumentative writing and developing a thesis. The readings enable to generate the statement for this discussion: To reduce drug addiction in youth, the authority in Wyle should find the root causes, challenges, and solution of the problem to help the youth.
