learning outcomes in week 2 of the course entailed the determination of the roles that stakeholders play in addressing a practice problem
One of the major learning outcomes in week 2 of the course entailed the determination of the roles that stakeholders play in addressing a practice problem. I achieved one of my weekly objectives by identifying all the applicable stakeholders for the selected practice problem, obesity. Further, I was able to examine the roles that each one of them plays in alleviating the problem. The information is critical because the stakeholders possess extensive knowledge of the practice priorities related to a specific practice problem. Consequently, they are better placed to discuss the issues that face the society, at both the national and local levels, as concerns the management of obesity.
I will employ this learning when undertaking an evidence-based change intervention. For instance, I can exploit my knowledge of the local stakeholders and their roles to assess the domestic setting’s available resources. Accordingly, this aspect would help in the allocation of resources and tasks to the various local and national players during the process of developing and implementing the proposed awareness program on the management and treatment of obesity. Without knowing who constitutes these stakeholders, and the roles they play, developing an intervention tailored to suit the needs of the local community would have been complicated. The lesson is also important because it provides me with the basis for forming collaborative relations. As a DNP practice scholar, one of my leading roles is to encourage the formation of interprofessional collaboration platforms. Hence, the stakeholder identification process provides a foundational basis for this accomplishment. Importantly, identifying stakeholders allows a DNP scholar to involve them in an intervention from the initial stages. This aspect helps to improve their buy-in; thus, increasing the probability of a change initiative succeeding.
