Personal statement engineering
I could never imagine that it was me when I first wore the graduation gown. I had waited for so long to be granted the power to serve, practice my profession, and give my best as a professional engineer. Deep down in my heart, I could feel the burden loaded on my shoulder. The duty to develop structures that are safe for humans is to establish a career of success in the various projects I undertake and enhance the highest degree of professionalism. That was very important to me as it was a symbol of success after a great struggle in academics, parental support, and the sacrifices I made to ensure that I make my parents proud. Being a childhood dream, I had to put more effort into ensuring that the sky is just the stepping stone.
Looking back at my professional journey, I believe that I am lucky considering the background that I was born and raised. Through struggles and commitment, I have achieved something, if not the best, but I am proud of the choice I made to become a civil engineer. After graduation, it was the beginning of another journey to develop a niche for myself amid thousands of graduates who leave school every year for the job market. I knew that if I do not push myself, I will give in to the various challenges in the outside world. Formal education was considered necessary, and I had to enhance my knowledge and experienced to make it in life. Due to this reason, I have worked with different organizations and highly experienced contractors such as Clark construction, Hitt contractor, and Skanska contractor in the east coast region to gain experience in the field.
It’s almost sixteen years since I graduated with a bachelor’s in civil engineering. Throughout the years, I have undertaken different activities and interacted with different individuals with great personalities and inspired me much. In the different positions that I have held, I have been challenged in one way or another. In this case, I have undertaken various positions from being a field engineer, project engineer, project supervisor, and then to a facilitator in the Washington metropolitan area. Such posts have unleashed a specific potential in me, which has enabled me to desire to achieve more in life and become an inspiration to others. Over the years, I have developed the urge to become renowned engineers who can be considered for great projects to enable society to enhance its development programs. This urge has increased my desire to acquire advanced knowledge in management and technical skills to be considered for such positions.
After attaining my professional engineer license in 2012 from the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia, I knew that it was the right time to take my profession to another level. I knew I was ready to undertake different projects on my own. This aspect was a great move in my life as I was able to be trusted with great projects due to my certification. Despite the achievement, I realized the advancement called for more technical qualifications as I was to undertake management activities besides my engineering knowledge. Through such education, I would be in a better position in implementing effective management of the different projects I will be assigned to oversee. Currently, I am working on a mega multi-million project, MD 355 Clean Water Project, and Wharf Phase II, and I realize the need to have managerial skills in such projects. I want to pursue a graduate program at the University of Boston as I believe it will enable me to achieve my goals and fulfill my desires.
