The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight scene is a bank robbery scene directed by Christopher Nolan. There is unexpected glass breaking that has a cut to a mid-shot of a clown in the hold of a weapon. This is an indication to the audience that the action is being viewed from the clown’s perspective (Bank Robbery Scene – The Dark Knight [4K Ultra HD]). Later in the scene, there is a cut to a mid-shot of an unknown person who so far is the clown on his own.

A first shot made was an establishing shot which was made at a big building in the town.  The direction where the camera zooms is towards a particular building, suggesting that it will be of an important role during the gradual development of the film. There is a medium shot in the instance where the clown pulls a woman to the ground (Bank Robbery Scene – The Dark Knight [4K Ultra HD]). The mid-shot portrays the dominance of the clown over the woman, and also it has a heavier meaning that evil has the power to corrupt the minds of people to harm innocent souls. In the scene, there is also a tracking shot that follows the two clowns on their way out of the building.

The camera movement at the beginning of the scene zooms the mask of the clown who was alone in the view, thus giving the clown an entity of its own. The zoom-in is directed to the clown’s mask lasts for about ten seconds, thus making the audience aware of the significance of the clown. After exiting the car, the camera, which is low angled tracks more of the clown who was originally alone (Bank Robbery Scene – The Dark Knight [4K Ultra HD]). This enhances keeping the audience focused on the character and also gave an idea that this clown will be a significant person throughout the film. The director is continuously giving the audience a hint by the use of camera shots and editing to leave them anticipating what will happen next.

Inside the vehicle, there is dim lighting, which aids in building the dark atmosphere and also portrays the evilness of the clowns. When the manager shoots, the target clown tilts his head, trying to figure out who the victim was and the music playing changes dramatically and becomes very quiet, and it implies that he is lost at the moment (Bank Robbery Scene – The Dark Knight [4K Ultra HD]). After they take the money, the music continually slows down to entice the audience at that particular time. The clips make me feel the intensity of greed of money, which changes individuals to being inhuman and heartless to the extent that they prefer money to save an innocent soul.
