the short story of Miss Brill

In the short story of Miss Brill, she is portrayed as someone who pretends to be of a higher stature as an old woman in life than how actually she is. In many instances miss Brill even if she is old, wants to look elegant from the dressing code to the way she carries herself when she is in the middle of other teachers at their workplace. Moreover, Miss Brill has this thought that society will never come for her in whichever way. Miss Brill in the whole story is that in her life everything is positive and eventually she will end up as a hero in the play. Even if she is old, Miss Brill had this behavior in every week of watching people who sat on the benches and green chairs. As she was watching the people she sees them as old not considering that she is also old. The impression she had on the people was that the people belonged to a lower class in life than the one she belonged to. Miss mallard in the short story of the story of an hour is portrayed to have the same characters as those of Miss Brill. The two women in the short stories are seen to live in worlds that they are both very comfortable living with unusual emotions whereby they even it take extreme situations for them to realize any change in their lives and reflect on the lives they had. For Miss Mallard to feel some extent of liberation and some excitement for the future, it took her the death of her husband. On the Other hand, Miss Brill took it on a different angle since Miss Brill’s life was mainly lived in on looking in others. Miss Millard life is also seen as a good life and her life is seen as a comfort one since she does not struggle in life (Armstrong, p 568). In the 19 century, many women did not go to work and hence could not afford to live the type of life they wished to have. Miss Brill having a job allowed her to live a good and elegant life which other women in her neighborhood who did not go to work not able to live.

Both on the lives of Miss Millard and Miss brill they are seen not living a life that accommodates many people. For example, Miss Brill is seen that Miss Brill repeats the routine of observing people alone and she had no one to accompany him. On the other side, Miss Millard becomes lonely especially after the death of her husband. The two women are seen not to go and visit many people and prefer sitting in their houses rather than going out and visiting friends. In the 1ss9 century, women did not have the freedom of moving a lot since they were left home with kids and cook for the family. These women did not move much and got used to staying at home most of the time, unlike today where women are seen leaving children with house helps and going out for work and other activities. In the short stories, both women are old women with established families and their lives have not featured whether they had children or not.
