Community health and schools (question one)
School nurses are essential professionals in school settings. They improve the mental, physical, and emotional needs of the students. They are vital in improving the health of students as well as their learning in general. It is evident that with the presence of a full-time school nurse in the school premises, students are less likely to fall sick. It has been a norm that students who attend schools without school nurses fall ill from time to time, and most of them are sent into emergency rooms.
Furthermore, school nurses are vital in providing medical help to students who are referred to other hospitals for further medical check-ups. With a school nurse, the student is likely to get appropriate advice and healthcare provision due to the referral. Another advantage of having a school nurse is the possibility of students falling sick. With a school nurse around, the students are less likely to miss classes due to illnesses because the nurse is available to handle or address any emerging issue before it worsens. This gives students enough time to attend classes because they will receive faster medication (Schwab, 2005).
Many schools do not have school nurses, whether on a full time or part-time basis. This is due to a lack of budgetary allocation for school nursing. Nurses are not adequately funded and hence make it a severe issue for them to work in school settings. School budgets pay for school nurses and not Medicaid. It is risky not to have a school nurse. Students are likely to face medical issues. For instance, with the outbreak of the corona pandemic, nurses are crucial in providing medical measures and advice to the students.
Community health and maternal, infant, and early child care (question two)
According to W.H.O.W.H.O., child maltreatment refers to any form of abuse or neglect towards children under the age of 18years. Such abuses or neglect can be ill-treatment, sexual abuse, exploitation of other forms of neglect. Such activities result in potential harm to the life, health, and survival of the child in question. Child maltreatment is not only an issue in the United States of America but also a global threat that needs to be mitigated. The maltreatment is consequential to both the children and the families involved. It disrupts the development of a child; hence, to extreme measures, it can lead to impaired nervous system development and the immune system. In most societies, children face very many forms of maltreatment, which not only affects them as children but also impacts their life as adults (Cicchetti & Toth, 2005).
Health, public health, and schools are doing what they can to reduce the prevalence of child maltreatment in communities across the globe. Since mitigation for abuse requires a multi-sectional approach, effective programs that are vital in supporting the parents and the caregivers to foster positive parenting is paramount. Therefore, nurses are continuously visiting parents as well as children to offer support, education as well as information on the need to abolish maltreatment (Cicchetti & Toth, 2005). Other programs help in preventing sexual abuse and trauma among the victim children have been put in place in hospitals and schools to sensitize the community on the need to address maltreatment as well as helping the victims to heal from the trauma.
Community health, adolescent and young adults (question three)
A vast population in the world constitutes adolescents between the ages of 10 to 19 years. Even though many of them can be seen as health, C.D.C.C.D.C. lists six critical types of behaviors among the adolescents that cause the leading causes of premature deaths, illnesses, and injuries among the population. Illness prohibits their growth to potential have a full growth cycle while other factors such as alcohol, sexual abuse, and violence jeopardize their health as youths and also as adults. Injuries are the leading causes of death and disabilities among adolescents and adults (Park et al. 2006). In 2016, it was reported that about 135 000 adolescents died due to road accidents these implies that youths are vulnerable in the road using. Hence, traffic laws should be comprehensive and reinforced to bur the young ones from facing the issues thereof. Violence, sexual abuse, and alcohol use are also fatal issues that lead to disabilities and deaths among this population.
Therefore according to WHO establishments, such issues can be prevented through various measures and programs. Evidence-based practices in the health care facilities and communities will help to support the efforts to curb and mitigate these issues. The governments should also enact high-quality adolescent guidelines to offer quality health services to adolescents (Park et al. 2006). Furthermore, communities should raise awareness in their settings, public hospitals, and schools to help the people to understand the need for health concerns and why it is necessary to address the issues attaching adolescent health. Therefore, stakeholders and other interested parties should come forth to help in addressing the issue to help and support the youths and prevent them from perishing due to the C.D.C.C.D.C. listed behaviors.
