The use of Computers to Support Patient Information Exchange
The use of computers to support electronic health records (EHRs) and facilitate information exchange is increasingly becoming standard practice in the health care setup. The use of computer technology provides quick and immediate access to important information about patients’ health or illnesses.
Computers provide quick access to information about a patient’s health or illness and their treatment plan from their electronic health record to nurses. In a computer network, nurses can easily access information such as x-ray results, laboratory tests, and health reports from other health care team members to give the best care possible. A computer network is a set of multiple computers connected to share information and resources such as files and documents.
They obtain and review data and information about the current and past health situation and plan of care regarding a patient, which helps them monitor the recovery process over time and facilitate the transmission of this information to the relevant health care professionals such as physicians.
They provide immediate access to clinical knowledge such as drug information, nursing assessments, articles, and nursing best practice guidelines and resources to help the nurse understand the patient’s health situation and plan of care better.
