Road to Perdition is one of the Greek tragedies that deals with remorseless fate for most characters. The movie is directed by Sam Mendes from a novel written by Allan Collins and Rayner Piers. It is the only movie that recalls American beauty for the first time. The aspect has been criticized as it won an award in Oscar’s Best Picture Award in 1999 (Zanuck Richard et al. 39). Some of them are exhilarating as little information is cast on the final doom of these characters. However, the impact of the tragedy seems muted as it is preordained. The movie`s approach to traditional issues causes it to lose something. Scholars have compared it with Godfather. However, in Godfather, the characters are given some sense of free will contrary to those in Road to Perdition, where the characters seem to be performing actions that are already long as they are written in the books of their lives.

The movie has other strengths that compensate for the implacable progress of the plot. The film is wonderfully played hence its huge praise that has allowed it to secure some awards. The movie creates a limbo of darkness, night, snow, cold, and fear critical in instilling suspense. The characters stand in downpours, the raining brims their fedoras and soak their shoulders on their thick wool overcoats. Their feet are left in the cold, and the photographer does ac right join in creating a visceral chill.

The storyline of the movie involves three sets of sons and their dads. Two of the sets are biological, while the third one is emotional. Tom Hanks plays with Sullivan, the enforcer, while as Rock Island branch of the Chicago mob. Tyler, on the other hand, plays his son Michael Junior (Davis et al. 891). However, Michael doesn’t know what his dad does for a living. He decided to find out and hid in the vehicle and get along for the ride. Sullivan works for Rooney. However, it is quite clear that some men name their sons after themselves, wishing that they turn out to be like them in their future lives. However, this is not the case of Michael Sr. who made a pact of evil to offer some support to his wife and put his boys in comfort.

On the other end, Rooney doesn’t want his son in the business, and the movie plot questions the audience whether it is possible for the father to spare their male kids from the costs of their sins. The scheme also involves sons who feel they are not favourable. For instance, Michael questions whether Peter is better than him to his dad. Sullivan visits Mr Rooney, and he can`t understand why Rooney protects his son Connor who betrays and steals from him.

The movie is a clear indication of how people live in a society today. Some fathers are sol loving, and they are always willing to support their children. On the other hand, there are some fathers, such as Rooney, who will do anything to protect their kids irrespective of what they do. However, there are some lie Sullivan who will go to the extent of conducting illegal business so as their kids may live comfortable lives. The issue of some parents loving other kids is evident as Michael questions his dad over his brother’s preference to him.
