Self-Care
Hi there, it’s been a minute!
Life has been hectic, but I have learnt to back off from stressful situations at a point, and things have been perfect. I trust you are doing well.
I am always pleased to put out things to you because I feel there are relatable. After all, who will not love getting tips on life situations?
Today, I want us to talk about self-care. This is an over flogged topic, but many do not see the importance. I am joining the bandwagon to add my voice so it can be on the record that I have played my part.
The reason why people do not take self-care seriously is because of time. Many argue that they do not have the luxury of time, so they cannot efficiently carry out a self-care routine. If you are part of the people who share such train of thought, I want you to realize that only the living can have a busy schedule.
If you do not find time for yourself, you may die, and your schedule would be passed to someone else.
Some other people stay away from self-care because they do not want to be selfish. However, being selfish is a necessary evil sometimes.
Sometimes, you need to place focus on yourself than others. This is the only way you can have happiness, fulfillment and peace of mind.
Engaging in a self-care process does not entail that you have to break your bank. They are simple routines which only needs the creation of time.
In no particular order, here are some self-care tips:
- Read Books: I think many do not understand the cooling effect that comes from reading. Getting lost in your imagination can be so blissful, and this can only be gotten from reading books. No matter how busy your schedule might be, you should always create time to read. If it is so bad, you should read nothing less than two books in a month. It will not be a complete self-care process if you do not enjoy the book you are reading. Search yourself, and ensure that whatever book you pick is something of interest. Not only will you gain knowledge from these books, but you will be relaxing your whole being through reading.
- Take Walks: How do you relax at the end of a busy day? I do not know about you, but taking walks have proven to be amongst the best ways to ease myself of stress. This does not mean that I have to go a long distance, but I just need to walk around and free my muscles. Sometimes, I even do it within the confines of my compound. The focus is to free my mind and concentrate on nature. While taking a walk, I appreciate the beauty around me and get lost in the feel. Try it, and you will confess that it is one of the best self-care routines.
- Mind Your Business: This might seem unconventional, but I have realized that minding my business is an effective routine for self-care. Sometimes, I have to draw back and observe the world and not get myself involved in everything. Imagine trying to eavesdrop when my neighbor is scolding her kid or when the gardener is berating the mailman over an issue. If it does not concern you, you should mind your business. If you inculcate this habit, you will always have peace of mind. Sticking into the business of others leads to you being entangled in a web of unending tales. It will be useful to keep in mind that you are not always needed, and I say this in the most polite way as possible.
- Focus your energy into a craft: What do you love doing? You should discover what you love and engage in it during your free time. Even if you do not have a free time, you should create one. You might love crocheting or writing; ensure to channel your energy into them periodically. People say that time goes faster when you are doing something you love, and this is true to an extent. Instead of staying bored during your free time or engaging in non-productive activities, you should channel your energy into a craft. I feel at peace when I come to my blog to write articles for you.
- Binge-watch TV Shows: Some people might say you are lazy when you do this, but you should know that it helps with self-care. Imagine the blissful feeling you will get when you stay all-day watching your favorite TV show. Trust me, you are going to be on broad smiles that no situation can take away. Ensure you have your snacks and drinks, with a big duvet, and binge-watch those shows! You will feel relaxed, and you will be glad that you took such a decision.
- Exercise: Yes, this is going to require effort and time, but it is essential for an adequate self-care process. If you do not know, you are doing more harmful than good to yourself when you engage in different busy schedules daily, come back home fatigue, then eat and sleep. There are many things which will accumulate in your body, and you need to burn it off through exercising. How do you wish to get your desired summer body if you do not exercise? I know I have your attention at this point. Exercising will give you a body that will make heads turn, and you will be satisfied knowing that this came through self-care.
- Learn to say NO: I know that it is lovely to be compassionate and help people, but you do not give assistance when it is to your detriment. It is at such point that you have to say ‘NO.’ Lending help does not mean you should inconvenience yourself. Always ensure that you do not go over your capability. Kindly explain to the person how you cannot render assistance at that moment, and it is their business if they understand or not. Yes, you need to protect your interest!
If someone ever questions your self-care processes, you should sue the person to court! It means the person does not have your interest at heart.
Be kind to others, but always be kind to yourself first!
Health is wealth, and self-care is important.
Stay safe always, till I come your way next time!
I hope you had an enjoyable read!
