Global cultures are a set of beliefs, norms and practices

Global cultures are a set of beliefs, norms and practices as well as ideas and experiences that bring people together at an international scale. National culture is a set of ideas, experiences and beliefs shared by the people of a given sovereign nation. Global cultures negatively impact national cultures in various ways. People of a given nation share can share some elements like religion, language, racial identity and ethnicity, among others. Global cultures influence some practices that dilute some of these elements that nations uphold strongly. For instance, with globalization, people intermarry, get acculturated or assimilated to foreign cultures while abandoning valuable customs. This loss of relevant national ethos may encourage terrorism, drug and substance abuse or unwarranted revolutions and coups.

According to the United Nations Office of Counter-terrorism, globalization has dramatically influenced the movement of people from one region to the other. Besides, people are passing some practices as they traverse the world. This migration is encouraging individualism that has dramatically influenced inequality in various nations, including some of the countries that are traditionally recognized for their communism, including China and Russia, among other nations from the Persian Gulf. While other factors may lead to terrorism, including designed insurgence, individualism significantly increases the gap between the rich and the poor. High levels of inequality as influenced by global cultures, negatively affects nations while encouraging poverty among the people. High levels of poverty and unemployment may lead to theft, violence and sometimes may influence terrorism.

Globalization is a significant drive for trade across nations. However, it encourages large organizations to introduce prices that the local companies may not manage. As such, global cultures promote closure for various local companies while making people lose jobs and hence increasing joblessness. As just mentioned, unemployment catalyzes other negative socioeconomic factors. For example, unemployment lowers people’s living standards.

In many cases, poor people do not consider good eating habits but concentrate on having something to eat. Therefore, global cultures contribute to the emergence of some diseases such as cholera, diabetes and other illnesses that occur due to poor diet. According to the U.S Center of Disease and Prevention Control (CDC), many people in the United States are developing Type 2 diabetes, lung problems and other cardiovascular diseases because of unhealthy eating behaviours. For instance, global cultures encouraged the consumption of sugary and fatty junk foods that highly contribute to the development of these diseases.

While global cultures are sometimes praised for the benefits they introduce to the international community, these cultures are the major causes of some diseases and traditionally unrecognized practices. Increased trade leads to price fluctuations in different nations. For example, oil and gas price fluctuations affect nearly all the economic sectors in almost every country across the globe.

In conclusion, global cultures have adverse effects on national cultures. This discussion demonstrates that global cultures introduce some adverse effects such as terrorism, health challenges, price fluctuations and poverty among the people of various nations. Also, global cultures encourage loss of national ethos while increasing crime and other social problems.
