The key data measurement exercise is carried out to comprehend different types of data measurements of epidemiology. Epidemiology presents powerful tools to measure the extent to which risk factors and humanitarian actions impact public health in crisis. Measurement of epidemiology provides information that could monitor the trend in the appearance of risk factors in health studies.

Advantages of Measurement

The bar chart represents data in a way that even nonspecialists are capable of interpreting it and the data is shown in a series of bars with two axes against each other. Bar charts show a clear connection between the size and value of data ( Unwin, 2018). Using bars trends are more comfortable to identify and a large amount of data presented quickly and accurately. Each data category is presented in a frequency distribution while using a bar chart and avails the data in a wide range of audiences. For example, if a school conducted each class president elections, a bar chart would be the most appropriate data presentation method for the information. Each candidate name would be shown on the x-axiss and the number of votes of on the y-axis, making it easy for each person in school to understand the results.

Line graphs have the advantage of recording data changes over times in a transparent way. By being able to trace changes in data could benefit researchers to compare data and present the exact cause of a particular problem. Also, line graphs give a universal color reproduction benefit. With line graphs, one can represent data in different ways without making the chart look mixed up.

The pie chart represents data in a simple and easy to grasp picture. Pie charts are a useful information communication tool for even the less informed audience because it shows data visually and as a fraction of a whole. Using pie charts helps the audience to see a comparison of data immediately after looking at the presentation and therefore makes data analysis easier.

Definitions of Terms

The ratio is a quantitative comparison between two or more variables which shows their sizes in connection with each other. Ration represents two quantities by division and shows how much of the number there is to another ( Abdulkadhim, 2018). For example, when for every one boy, there are four girls, the ration can be expressed as 1:4. Proportion is a comparison of two or more mathematical quantities. Proportion shows ratios equivalent to each other. For example, 1/3=2/6. Percentage expresses a proportion of a whole which is usually the amount per hundred. For example, 77/100 is equivalent to 7.7%.  Comparing rates is to look for similarities between two quantities and contrasting is showing the difference between two or more variables.

Incidence is the rate of new events occurring at a specific period. Incidence data accuracy depends on the degree at which the diagnosis of diseases and reporting is accurate. On the other side, prevalence refers to the real number of cases alive with the disease within a particular time. The relation between prevalence and incidence depends mostly on the natural history of the condition being reported. Incidence provides information on the risk of contracting the disease being reported while prevalence shows the widespread of the disease.
