Part 1: Physical description

A family member

My uncle Jim is very tall. Apart from his outstanding height, Uncle Jim has a large scar on his left cheek. The scar is the shape of a crescent moon, a feature that makes Uncle Jim’s scar unique. The two unique features make Uncle Jim very noticeable and uneasily forgotten.

My best friend

Regie has crossed eyes. His eyes are the first thing one notices about him because of the intense gaze. Also, Regie is bow-legged. When walking, he tends to lean towards his left because his left leg is shorter.

Someone who exercises authority over you

Mrs. Doney lives across the street. She has an intimidating gaze because her face is always so stern. Her long strides compliment her stern gaze. I find Mrs. Doney very authoritative because of her commanding voice.

Dialogue between people under the following circumstances

Two strangers who have met at a mutual friend’s funeral

Jill: Stella was such a nice person; she didn’t deserve to die like that.

Agnes: Indeed, I hope the police will find whoever murdered her.

Jill: Oh, forgive my manners, my name is Jill, Stella and I once worked together.

Agnes: I am Agnes. Stella was my roommate back in college. Nice to meet you.

Two people whose cars have just collided in an automobile accident

Jack: (angrily) did you not see the lights turn red?

Jane: (Shaking) I am so sorry. I hope no one is injured.

Two persons stranded on an elevator stuck between floors.

Lady: Not now! I am late for my interview!

Peter: Which position had you had you applied for?

Lady: A HR position at Peterson Associates.

Peter: (smiling at the lady) my name is Peterson.

Part 2: Short story introduction

A homeless person enters an elegant department store

Heads turned as all eyes looked at the person that had just entered the Queens department store. It was a short man whose face was covered in a bushy beard. His thick eyebrows covered his eyes, which made him tilt his head up because he could not see clearly. On his back was a huge dirty sack that leaked what looked like muddy water. Everybody exchanged confused glances as the man continued to walk further inside the store. The store attendant twisted his nose because of the disturbing stench that was coming from the man. As the store attendant approached him, the man started laughing in an unbelievably loud voice that made the store attendant back away.

A very wealthy young lady′s car breaks down, and she enters a cheap, “honky-tonk” bar to make a telephone call

The clunking of her heels made all people who were in the bar pause all their activities. The town was a remote one, and any new face was easily recognizable. The young lady wore a short pink dress with her long legs protruding. Her confident walk made everyone look at each other as if to ask, “who is this diva?” She stopped at the counter and took off her sunglasses and smiled at the bartender. “Hello, my name is Sandra, and my car just broke down. Can I please use your phone because mine died a few minutes ago.” The bartender was taken aback because he never expected her to be so polite. From her sassy look, everyone expected her to have a sassy attitude. However, she sounded so respectful and timid. The men who were at the pool table looked at each other as if to ask, “how can someone so sassy by so polite?”

Dialogues

A woman who loves to fly is seated on an airplane next to an elderly gentleman who is flying for the first time and is shaken by fear.

(Cynthia is sitting comfortably in her seat. She takes her earphones to listen to music on her phone. As she taps her phone aimlessly, she notices the older man seated next to her fidgeting in his seat. She is concerned, and she decides to talk to the man)

Cynthia: (stretching out her hand for a handshake) Hello, are you okay?

Gary: (taking her hand). Yes…well no. But it’s a bit embarrassing.

Cynthia: I am Cynthia; I could tell that you were uneasy. Do you need any help?

Gary: Well, Cynthia, I am Gary. I am not feeling so well.

Cynthia: what’s wrong? Can I call the flight attendant for you?

Gary: (shaking his head vigorously) No. No. No. It’s just that; this is my first time flying.

Cynthia: (nodding knowingly) wow Gary, it must be a new experience for you.

Gary: Yes. I am shaking because of fear and only fidgeting to avoid getting noticed.

Cynthia: (smiling) Oh Gary. Flying for the first time is quite challenging. I’m sure I look composed, but my first time was worse than yours.

Gary: (widening his eyes in disbelief) really? What happened?

Cynthia: All I wanted was to pee. I stayed in the toilet for such a long time that the attendant came to check up on me.

Gary: (Laughing hysterically) you? Then I must be doing great compared to you.

Cynthia: (also laughing) yes. You will get used to flying within no time.

(The two continue to chat and laugh)

End

A sensitive, awkward teenager tries to tell his father, a stern disciplinarian, that he has quit school.

(A stranger at the Hudson household would know that it is a military household. From the medals hanging on the walls to the displayed military souvenirs. Mr. Ingram is seated at the living room reading a book. He looks up when his son Jay walks into the room)

Jay: (speaking in a shaky voice) good evening sir.

Mr. Ingram: (barely looking up from his book) good evening to you young man.

Jay: (unsure of his words) I…I need to talk to you father.

Mr. Ingram: (putting his book aside). Yes, young man. Speak up.

Jay: (taking a seat across his father) I have decided to quit school. Before you say, anything dad, I have thought about it, and there is nothing you or mother can say to change my mind.

Mr. Ingram: (staring unbelievably at Jay) what did you say? If you quit school, I am going to put you in a military boarding school. There is no way a son of mine can stop school and disgrace the family.

Jay: (tears forming in his eyes and speaking in a squeaky voice) bu..but father, I think I am not cut for formal education. I want to pursue a technical course. Father, please listen to me.

Mr. Ingrid: (taking off his spectacles) look at me, young man. Do you think I reached where I am by quitting school? You have two options, either go back to school or join the military school.

Jay: (tears flowing) but…

Mr. Ingram: (obviously irritated) my word is final Jay!

(Jay staggers out of the room with tears streaming freely)

End

A person who has been caught shoplifting a sweater tries to convince a store security guard to let him/her go without prosecution.

(Everything seems reasonable at the Rounders convenient store. All of a sudden. The alarm goes off, and everyone moves towards the door to figure out what the problem might be. The security guard is holding a teenage boy)

Security guard: Young man, shoplifting is a serious offense which can land you in jail

Ryan: I am so sorry, I don’t know what came over me, sir. Please forgive me.

Security guard: there have been several cases of missing items in this store. We finally know who the thief is.

Ryan: (Crying) please do not call the police sir. I will give you my father’s number, please.

Security guard: (tightening his grip) why would you steal such a small item? This sweater can land you in jail.

Ryan: (still crying) it was a stupid dare from my friends. Please forgive me, sir.

Security guard: (shaking his head) give me your parent’s number.

(Ryan gives his father’s contact to the security guard)

End
