Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

The governor is tasked with a duty of seeking a replacement since senator Sam had died. The governor is under pressure from his boss to appoint his choice that is a person who wouldn’t uncover their shady deals in politics and at the same time the popular committee wanted a reformer named as a senator. In political appointments, it is quite hard to please people and at the same time please your cronies in politics especially the corrupt. The governor finally appointed Mr Smith as a way of being neutral. Leadership positions should be filled with people who can deliver effectively without misusing public resources. The movie paints a clear picture of how some politicians like Mr Taylor exploit the people in government to retain their influence.

The movie also shows that there are a rare species of leaders who are people-minded like Mr Smith. Smith is focused on building a camp for boys. The move would help the youth of that area, but coincidentally it was to be set up on the same location where the dam was to be constructed, a project which would enrich the corrupt Mr Taylor. When Smith began asking questions about the dam, Taylor and his cahoots began painting a different picture of him saying how Smith was planning to profit off the dam. The movie shows how the inexperienced and honest people are cornered by the corrupt people to maintain their faces in the political arena. The film also clearly indicates how policy-making in government is full of hurdles. The movie also shows how politicians can compromise the media. Smith’s attempts to clear his name were futile simply because the press was also compromised by the corrupt. The news turned around Smith’s words and made him look like a fool. The movie teaches leaders to stand up for what they believe in and being honest.
