Admission Essay into University of Cumberlands
My name is Das Anjaneyulu Darla. I am an experienced engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the computer software industry. I am also highly skilled in configuration management, agile methodologies, and culinary skills. I graduated with a masters degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Northwestern Polytechnic University.
I worked at Techvensys from December 2012 to July 2013 as a build and release engineer. Although I worked there for eight months, I gained experience that catapulted me to my next career at eharmony.
I worked at eharmony as a DevOps engineer from June 2015 to February 2017. At eharmony, I had many duties and responsibilities. I provided support for the DevOps and Release Management Operations, Java, and Node JS built applications deployment using Jenkins and Chef Environment. I installed binaries, configured, and administered Jenkins Continuous Integration tool on Linux machines along with adding/updating plugins such as SVN, GIT, Maven, and Chef.
I created Jenkins Pipeline scripts for automating the build process; the creation came as a turning point since I started inventing new products. I managed the Nexus Repository as Art factory for storing the Maven Build Artifacts. Besides, I governed AWS administration for Server Creation and Server management.
My experience at eharmony exposed me to a range of innovation and managerial experiences. Although after executing my duties successfully, I thought myself fit for an administrative position. I, however, did not know how to go about it since I had never been in another managerial position.
At present, I am working at Fonteva as a DevOps engineer. I have more duties compared to what I was doing previously at eharmony. Among the many tasks and responsibilities I had, there are key areas that helped shape my managerial and innovation skills. I Designed, configured, and implemented CI/CD workflows for a leading Salesforce Product. The creation not only helped me sharpen my innovation skills but also expose me to leadership. Since I was the one who invented the CI/CD workflows, I had to demonstrate how they worked and oversee implementation. The management at Fonteva gave me a lead position during the implementation of the workflows. Based on the success of the workflows, I saw that I was fit for a managerial position.
I started my interest in corporate responsibility when I collaborated with other engineers in troubleshooting various settings, including both in-house and external client environments. It was my first time to interact with a client environment. Typically, as an engineer, the nature of my work did not give a chance for client interaction. However, when I worked in the client environment, I was challenged about how I could handle a managerial position when I had no skills in client interaction. Although I could deliver what a client wanted, I did not know how to increase the success of a company based on other factors.
I decided to get a doctoral in Business because I believe that I would gain all the skills required for a top managerial position. Although I had exposure based on my work experience, I needed to learn the professional skills as well as the ethics of the profession. Even though I have been buried in innovation work in all my previous work experiences, I believe that equipped with my innovation skills and a doctoral in business; I can attain any level of a top managerial position.
My research interest in the area of business is corporate responsibility. In my profession, engineers do not interact with clients regularly. Besides, since much of the work engineers do is office and workshop based. Therefore, engineers rarely communicate with company publics. I want to research on how engineers can increase client interaction and how such CSR can impact on a company’s performance. I think corporate responsibility is an important research area because it will give insights on how people in the engineering field can increase the output of a company by engaging in corporate social responsibility. I selected to pursue a doctoral program in business because I believe engineers can engage in interactive client business. Many instances are when engineers depend on business experts to analyze trends and pitch their inventions. However, I would like to break the norm by studying business and understanding all the finer details required in the business world.
I selected the University of Cumberlands because of the exemplary record in business studies. Apart from the academics, University of Cumberlands encourages intellectual and spiritual growth, leadership and service; qualities that come in handy in the entrepreneurial world.
My strength is innovation. Due to vast and ever-changing technology, I enjoy experimenting and putting innovative ideas into action. My weakness is communication skills. Although I have handy practical skills, I have not managed the art of effectively communication my concept. I hope to use my innovation skills to even better inventions. At the same time, I hope to improve my communication skills to communicate my ideas. The practice of business is expanding at a fast rate. With a doctorate in business, I see myself leading a sizeable innovative corporation. The business doctorate from the University of Cumberlands will help me in exercising practical leadership skills and also increase company performance by implementing corporate responsibility.
