Advanced Practice Nursing
Describe experiences of receiving care from an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or what it would be like to work with a nurse practitioner
Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) are at the closest to the patient compared to any other official in the clinic. The experience in receiving care from an advanced practice nurse is always one to recall among patients (Xia, 2015). First, the nurses know the best way to engage their clients and do not participate in unethical practices in their delivery of services. The advanced practice nurses are sufficiently trained, and thus working along them does not involve additional burden.
How has your view of the role of the APN changed from what your view was prior to beginning the program?
My view on the roles of advanced practice nurses has not changed much after joining the program. However, the details on the specific roles of the advanced practice nurses have helped me deal with the confusion that I had concerning the roles of the advanced practice nurses (Wheeler et al. 2015). For example, I have observed the roles of practice nurses changing from being extension officers to specialized officers in the clinics. Generally, the change that has happened since starting the program is to understand the specific roles of the advanced practice nurses.
What is the biggest revelation about the roles of the NP?
A nursing practitioner is a career recommended for people who thrive in the environment of providing care to other people. Also, I have come to learn that practice nurses are required to solve complex problems in the clinic setting and should thus be confident in the area of specialization (Calero, Gomila & Fullana, 2019). Generally, the roles of practice nurses have grown broader than the initial extension roles.
In talking to a group of nursing students about opportunities in the field, what would you tell them about pursuing their education to become an APN?
Pursuing a career in any field always depends on the passion that an individual has. Advanced Practice Nursing has several challenges that need confidence in dealing with without giving up. The choice of practice nursing should be made out of the passion for providing care to people and not an escape path from other demanding careers.
