Duties of a Probation Officer

According to the video provided, Officer Murdock speaks out about her role as a law enforcer and performing social work. Officer Murdock is a probation officer. According to Murdock, a probation officer is entitled to help people, especially those who have been convicted and sentenced.  A probation officer also supervises individuals by visiting the convict’s house; involving their parents, visit their workplaces and school.  Probation officers also tend to call the convicts up in their offices to gather information on how to help the convict. According to Murdock, a probation period is always between three to five years.

According to Murdock, when the victim is on probation, they usually face a lot of challenges. Some of the challenges faced are like transport might be a problem, food, they even fall sick or need a sort of medication. A probation officer always comes up to make sure that the victim is alright, make him feel comfortable; unite him with his family and children during their regular meetings. According to Murdock, a probation officer is always entitled to bridge the gap between a law enforcer and a human service worker. A probation officer is entitled to make trips every morning, during midday when people are busy having their lunch or in their vehicles to make sure if any issue arises, they respond with immediate effect

Law authorization officers perform law implementation obligations that are intended to ensure open security. Law authorization officials are likewise officials of the court and are liable for implementing court orders (Wolfe, et al, 2018). Law enforcement officers incorporate such things as medication testing programs, tranquilize treatment programs, liquor treatment projects, and outrage the executives’ programs. Law enforcement officers are frequently required to show up in court and give declaration concerning the exercises of their customers (Wolfe, et al, 2018). Law enforcement officers perform searches and hold onto proof of a crime or specialized infringement. Law enforcement officers may also prescribe that violators be sent to jail, or proceed on post-trial supervision or parole with changed conditions.

Unlike law enforcement, police also perform social work, which entails quick response to incidents such as accidents to prevent trauma, provide counseling to convicted criminals to reduce cases of committing suicide (Miller, 2015). A social worker helps victims who are on probation successfully go through their correction process and become resourceful people again. Murdock describes a case of a Woman she helped during her probation period. After successful probation, as Murdock describes, the woman was able to secure herself two jobs and an excellent residential area (Miller, 2015). Transformation of a person from bad habits to a good human being again is what makes a probation officer going, making people resourceful in the community once again. A probation officer also follows up the convict after the court session, helps them to answer questions, review court order together, and make sure they follow the designated court order (Hsieh, et al, 2015). Probation alias with an advocate, lawyers, court helps, and different lawful delegates, for example, open protectors and network agents, in regards to the data assembled during the screening, evaluation, and supervision forms. As the probation officers take part in legal procedures, they should speak to their clients in a reasonable yet firm way that adjusts correspondence, responsibility, open security, and requirements of the victimized family.

In conclusion, a probation officer helps convicted people to go through a process of transformation to become better people. A probation officer makes sure that the client feels comfortable, and gets the entire necessary requirement needed, thus they are required to make time to time assessment to the client. Being a police officer, a probation officer also enforces laws where appropriate, and still provides the human services.
