Critical Analysis of Assembly Line by Braaksama Andrew
According to the essay of Assembly Line, Braaksama explains the experience he endured while working as a laborer in a factory. Braaksama chose to work as a laborer because he needed to raise funds to support his life in college. Braaksama uses the opportunity to explain to his audience the importance of education, and how casual workers are mistreated.
Regarding the experience of Braaksama, education is an essential aspect for a person to have a successful life. Braaksama argues that the level of education significantly impacts the depth of the job opportunities available for them. Educated people always have a wide range of opportunities to choose from due to the rise in opportunities for upward mobility.
Braaksama was shocked by the little money he earned after working tirelessly for twelve hours a day (Newsweek, 2016). Braaksama could not believe that after the hard work he had instilled the whole day, the amount he earned in return could not allow him to have a decent life. Braaksama understands the value of education since life without education proves to be difficult. According to Braaksama, people should not take for granted the opportunities they get to further their levels of education, which increases their chances of bettering their livelihood.
Braaksama also explains the difficulties of the less skilled laborers including lack of many job opportunities, which is also followed by low income irrespective of the hard work. Individuals who have attended college and Universities are protected against job loss during the recession period (Newsweek, 2016). Braaksama explains how working in an industry is frustrating, and people always have high chances of losing their jobs.
According to Braaksama, lack of education is the key to employees being mistreated due to a lack of knowledge about their rights. Due to lack of knowledge, employees are underpaid, overworked, harassed, and abused by their senior workers. Taking an example of foreigners working in the US, they forced to overwork under harsh conditions due to the fear of being deported back to their home countries.
In conclusion, Braaksama focuses on the importance of educating in our society. From the experience of Braaksama, the less educated workers are subjected to long working hours, little pay, and working under harsh environments.
