How the Study of Civil Engineering Will Contribute To My Immediate and Long Term Goals Career Plan
Civil engineering is a significant element when it comes to community development. Civil engineers provide the necessary infrastructures in society, including roads, airports, bridges and other vital infrastructure. Therefore, civil engineers lay the foundation for community development by designing and overseeing critical public works.
My immediate goal is to get a job working for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The US Army Corps of Engineers is dedicated to delivering engineering services to people worldwide. Besides, the US Army Corps of Engineers strengthens security by building and maintaining infrastructure. Furthermore, they provide military facilities and engineering services where other service members train, work and live. Apart from necessary infrastructure, the US Army Corps of Engineering is responsible for designing and constructing flood systems as well as dredging waterways to enable movement of essential products.
The study of my major will contribute significantly to the US Army Corps of Engineers. I have a creative imagination that enables me to become innovative and able to improve on solutions. Combined with my technical skills and communication skills, I can effectively communicate my ideas without ambiguity. I am also a team player, an ability which makes it easy to work with other people efficiently.
My long term goal is to retire from the military as an engineering officer in 20 years. Working in the US Army Corps of Engineers will expose me to various engineering fields. Furthermore, the US Army Corps of Engineers work in multiple countries around the world. Therefore, I will get exposed to all manners of situations, all of which will require different approaches. As a result, my experience will continue to grow as time progresses.
