Highway
Ralph is a first generation Canadian who is hot his parents came to Canada from Germany and he grew up there. He is interested in how it works in Germany with the driving school and with the motorways to the driving school I’ll tell you another time what’s going on with the motorways. We start with the German Autobahn, which is known worldwide. the first official autobahn was inaugurated in 1932. Most Americans are disappointed when they first see a freeway. Because compared to the freeways or the large ten-ring streets in LA, highways are rather tiny. A highway is a road in both directions. Each direction has at least two tracks in the middle, the two directions are separated either by concrete walls or by steel crash barriers. If a car anyway drives on the wrong side in the wrong direction, it usually works out deliberately as a test of courage or as a suicide attempt, but sometimes it’s just confused people, then these drivers are called ghost drivers. Motorways are mostly constructed in such a way that ma neither has tight curves nor large differences in height if this could be done if there is too much going on, especially during the holiday season, then there is traffic jam on the motorway. Then the cars stand more than they drive. On a highway there is a minimum speed so you have to have at least one vehicle that can drive 60 kilometers per hour or faster. Cyclists are of course not allowed on the autobahn small vespa scooters or the like. Originally the autobahn hardly had a speed limit, so you could drive as fast as you wanted. In the meantime, that has changed in many places. The speed is fixed there and you must not drive faster than 120 km h, for example. The reason for the limitation is security. If one car 210 horses and the other 100 then it is easier to get accidents than if both are driving at roughly the same speed or slow speed. A third of the German traffic watch over the highway. Most of the trucks are on the road here. You have to pay to drive on the highway. Rarely does a motorway have more than three lanes. Since the freeway was also used a lot for long-distance traffic, so people have to travel long distances. There are rest stops so you drive briefly next to the freeway to eat or refuel. There are even Autobahn churches and you know what it costs to build a highway per kilometer 26.8 million euros the most expensive is the planning dke usually takes around 20 years then you need engineers to help and advise and the construction itself costs 6.7 million Euro. If you are in Germany and you are looking for a motorway, look for blue signs with white letters.
