recent event where two lawyers held a felony conspiracy to murder another attorney
The following paper captures a recent event where two lawyers held a felony conspiracy to murder another attorney. The two lawyers involved were Chelsea Tijerina and Seth Andrew. The victim was to be the ex-husband of Tijerina who had earlier been arrested for allegedly being involved in an indecency with a child. The two well-known lawyers had contracted a killer to perform their dirty work, but what the two lawyers did not know was that the killer to be was an undercover police officer. Their deal was after the killing, they would help the killer get out of town and that was after granting him three hundred dollars to purchase a gun. The murder was to go down at the home of the victim.
The following story got me thrilled by the intended act of the two lawyers of committing murder. According to Postema, (1980) lawyers are from a legal profession and their observation of the law is expected to be above the layman people. (American Bar Association. 2020) also emphasizes the role of lawyers and the necessity of their diligence, competency and prompt whether they are at work or in their ordinary business. It hence gets me startled that the people who are expected to interpret the law and guide clients on legal proceedings would be going against the same law. Lawyers are expected to not only obey the law but also the legal system which include other lawyers, judges and the public officials. The attempt to murder another attorney not only angers me but also gets me wondering whether the lawyers who we expect to lead us through the legal processes and help us understand the law, really has respect for each other. Additionally, another puzzle that captures my attention, is if a lawyer will not respect his fellow lawyer, what respect does he hold for the common man?
According to the author of the story, the two lawyers were allegedly serving the victim justice for having improper sexual contact with a minor who was a family member. The question that this raises is, have the two lawyers lost confidence in the judicial system? And so should we as citizens rely on the judicial system if the people representing the legal system could have lost their confidence? However, we have seen many cases that the judicial system have properly ruled and the perpetrator serving their sentences in prison. The case of the two lawyers, therefore could be termed as unethical and they should not go above the law and take someone else’s life for an accusation that has not been proven guilty. Their professional responsibility calls for adherence to ethical standards with implications if the ethical standards are not adhered to (American Bar Association. 2020).
