Global Policy Reforms
Decision-making is a crucial step in nursing; hence, nurse leaders and management are always required to make more informed decisions that will improve patient outcomes. They are several ways the nurse leaders can use to make informed decisions. It is essential to be aware that, when we say informed decisions, it merely means that patients should be aware of the choices and treatments for their medical care. They should also be aware of the potential outcomes of these choices and treatments. Finally, their values should be considered in the decision about their medical care. The following steps are essential when making informed decisions in nursing practice, especially on a global basis. The first step is usually problem identification; hence, you should identify the problem that the nurses are currently facing. (Cernat et al.,2019).
After you are aware of the problem and clarified it is the one, the collection of data and information begins, this step is essential because they help the nurse leader be more informed about the problem. It involves carrying out medical research and also collaborating with other colleagues to exchange ideas and learn more about the problem. After you have concluded, you are supposed to brainstorm all the other alternatives and start using the information you have gathered. Through it, you may be in a better position to identify the best alternative. After identifying all the best alternatives, you will then be supposed to weigh the alternatives; this will also involve collecting views and recommendations globally from all the medical experts. Then you will able to find the best alternative, and it will be ready to be enacted and used in the health centers, you will be needed to play the role of a motivator, and encouraging your peers to implement the plan. (Standing, 2020).
Within a short period, you will also be supposed to review the decision and analyze if it is helpful and has had a negative or a positive impact in the nursing field. You will also be supposed to check on areas of weakness and strengthen them. Through the readings in this course, I have been able to learn a lot of information about effective decision making in the field of nursing and how I can improve the quality of patient outcomes. Through collaboration, which is one of the skills I acquired from the readings, I will enhance my creativity and learn how to handle patients regardless of their circumstances. As a nurse leader, I will also be involving team members in the decision-making process so that I can make decisions that suit everyone. (Koch & Grier, K2020).
