Career Plan Reflection
Based on the 16 Personality survey I have taken, my constant strength which I kind of knew are strong sense of duty, very loyal, sensitive and warm, and good at connecting with others. Among the above strength, one I would strongly agree with the survey outcome is that, good at connecting with other, and I would say the core reason is my up brining and the constant moving from place to place and from country to country.I was born in Somali, grew up in Ethiopia, visited middle east, (Dubai, Saudi Arabi), Asia (India, Pakistan) Europe( England, France) each of the above countries I lived or visited I acquired a lifelong experience which prepared me to be able to work with any group of people. Personally, I would rather be on the front line serving the community than siting in an office behand desk for 8 hours .I consider my consistent strengths to be working with groups and teamwork, and more importantly getting involved it the community engagement
May areas of improvement would be to study the process of policy making, and get involve in the process of decision making, I had taken Health Ethics and Policy course whichopened a small window as to how to campaign for issues and get the legislators to back up your proposed policy. I will work on being more involved in the decision-making process and get to know my elected officials.
I believe I would be more useful in outreach to the voiceless and underrepresented community. I believe I have the skills to interact with different communities with different needs and concerns . As a public health worker our core functions are Assessment, Policy development, and Assurance. My most interest area of Public Health functions, is the assurance function; I would love to make sure that every member of the community is getting the best outcome of public health functions
As far as my goals for the next 1-15 years is that, beginning with the 2020,my goal is to complete my first degree and then right after to proceed to graduate school of public health. After getting my second degree I would like to work with the United Nations abroad focusing on the infectious disease ( HIV/AIDS, TB, etc.) in African and Middle East. In the meantime, I would like to work with local health organizations here in the Metro in order to get experience in the field of public health. In the next 15 years I plan on getting my doctoral degree in public health and work with Word Health Organization (WHO) to better the health care system around the world. More importantly to be a good role model for my children, getting my degree, I want to set a good example for them, that they can get a head with education, for me English is my 4thlanguage, as Somali is my 1st language, Amharic my 2nd, Arabic my 3rd, and lastly English my 4th language, hence English is their 1stlanguage they can do much better than I.
