Design and Management of Health Information Systems

The technology of informatics in health care did not come as a surprise to the sector. This is due to the technological revolution that has been taking place in all the other sectors. Technologies like robotics arms for surgery and delivering drugs into the bloodstream using nanorobots have led to significant changes in health professionals’ roles. Health informatics has led to a shift in roles among health practitioners in various ways.

Health informatics has made it easier for health practitioners to carry out diagnosis, background checks, and treatment due to the increased levels of information sharing (HITC,2016). The providence of information about the disease, patients, and drugs between the patients and healthcare providers makes the work easier for physicians, hospital administrators, patients, and pharmacists.

Having health informatics has increased the efficiency of healthcare providers. This is because there is no much time wasted in repeating the procedure, patients are always updated about the health, and therefore, they can treat many patients within a short time. Delays have been reduced, and there is less procedure placed in healthcare professionals. Lab procedures can also get t their stations faster, and therefore less time is wasted. It also makes it easier to keep track of the patients. Patients feel more involved and responsible for their health through engagement in health informatics. Therefore, they can achieve better health. Monitoring for physicians is more manageable now and more effective ‘ Electric gadgets given to patients to measure things like pulse and calory intake provides health professional, accurate data. They do not have to depend on the patient’s information, which might be inaccurate.

Health informatics also enhances the appropriate coordination levels between medics from X-rays, blood tests, therapy, nutrition, therapies, and instructions for discharge. This translates to improved outcomes and better quality of the overall care. These are some of the ways in which health care informatics has transformed the role of healthcare professionals.
