Preliminary strategy
A clear strategy will help focus the organization’s resources on strengthening and directing operations of the organization where there are opportunities for improvement. Now that Barbara has a better understanding of the factors that influence clinical performance, it will be easier to address them. The domain of this project is to identify the factors that have been dragging clinical performance behind and the problems that require to be addressed. We first have to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in healthcare (McDermott et al., 2017).
Strengths that exists such as experienced health professions have to be maintained, and any opportunity of acquiring more is encouraged. A project assessment was carried out on UCCO, and we were able to identify the unavailability of enough strengths in most departments. There is a need to have at least an expert in each department to cater to the severe cases that require to be addressed. Some weaknesses exist as some of the health workers have less work experience. Patients have also complained of low services given by the health professions, which is not an encouraging factor (Smith et al., 2010).
There are very many opportunities that exist that give the health center a chance to improve, but the possibilities are misused. For example, the government has been funding the health center, but the money given is not being appropriately managed. We encountered a problem with the procurement procedure, where tenders are given through corruption. This has encouraged the supply of low quality and quantity goods in the health center that cannot cater for all the patients adequately. Strikes have also been common among health workers because their salaries are not paid on time, and they are not provided with enough protective equipment. We also encountered some patients’ files getting lost due to inadequate record-keeping systems (Wilson & Hench, 2012).
The solution to the problems
Solutions to all the addressed problems have to bring a clear vision for clinical performance. There is a need for more experts to be employed to improve clinical performance. Experts can be acquired from other organizations or even well-known education institutions to work for the health center. This will ensure that there are enough experts to treat patients and improve healthcare. The health center should also ensure that most of their employees have work experience to reduce the risk of exposing their patients to non-experienced health professions (McDermott et al., 2017).
Improved services should be given to patients to enhance the relationship between healthcare workers and patients. Money that has been shown to the health center by the government should be managed in the best way. This, therefore, calls for a good finance manager to make sure that money is appropriately utilized. The procurement team should also take the tendering process seriously and ensure that tenders are given to the best suppliers after considering the value for money. Better record-keeping methods have to be introduced in the hospital to ensure that necessary data is not lost (Smith et al., 2010).
Recommendations
With improved technology, I would recommend introducing the best EHR system, which ensures that patients’ health records are recorded electronically. Change in technology has been useful because it has made most of the activities more comfortable. When all the data is stored through electronic systems, this reduces the risks of most information getting lost, and paperwork is also significantly reduced. This is the best method of record-keeping because it is cheaper and easier to adopt compared to other methods. Barbara is supposed to encourage the management to install the EHR system and training conducted to familiarize all employees with access data. Solving all the problems around the health center and following the recommendations given will ensure the best services around the health center. Paperwork and loss of files will also be minimum. All the changes will ensure that services are cheaper for both the patients and the health center (Wilson & Hench, 2012)
