Introduction
Early Adulthood between the ages 20-40 is an important stage in the human development because it is an era in where the physical maturation is complete. Likewise, the physical abilities are at their peak. However, aging begins during the early adulthood at the age of 30 where there are significant body changes that symbolize aging even though the body is at the peak in regards to physical abilities. Human beings must maximize and give their full potential to development at the early adulthood stage because it reaches a point where the human body fails to respond to growth (Berk, chapter 13.2). This paper seeks to give some of the fundamental strategies to Physical, Emotional, Cognitive and Social growth at the stage of early adulthood.
Strategies to Cognitive development
Some of the most significant cognitive changes in early adulthood entail the development of the cerebral cortex and the increased growth of neural fibers (Berk, chapter13.1). The stage is characterized by a continued fine-tuning of the prefrontal cognitive control network in order to attain a balanced level of the emotional and social networks. Human being improves on the ability to plan and make effective decision-making and reasoning capabilities. There is a significant increase in the level of intelligence. Cognitively speaking, adulthood is an opportunity to increase knowledge in specific fields.
During the early adulthood development, the human is obliged to develop skills inefficiency regarding handling tasks, in a way that they prioritize in order to meet the set deadlines, explicate on time management and reaching at the peak of human intelligence (Berk, chapter 13.2). Human beings should invest in projects and programs that improve their communication skills and problem-solving techniques to become better and effective. The cerebral cortex and frontal robe are highly correlated to sound judgment and effective, timely planning. It enables the human beings to develop their fluid intelligence, which shows that they should invest in being goal oriented at given time zones.
Strategies to physical development
Genetics reveal that most people are at their peak of human growth at the stage of early adulthood. In this stage, the body of the particular individual is at its healthiest and most capable point. The fact that the body is fully developed at this stage allows the adults to improve in functionality in comparison to the earlier stages of development. Likewise, the body is healthy in a way that it has not begun experiencing significant aging responses that trigger specific health disorders that deteriorate with time. This explains that healthy habits are very significant because they are a crucial determinant of the future of that particular individual. Some of the most critical strategies in this stage entail physical exercises, avoiding of smoking and drug-related abuse, eating a well-balanced, stable diet. People who engage in these activities have higher health prospects in the middle and later stages of adulthood (Berk, Chapter 13.3). In addition to this, the early adulthood in a stage where the individual faces several life conflicts that include career, marriage, financial growth, which are a threat to their emotional stability. Another effective strategy is avoiding stress, which triggers severe body responses.
Strategies to emotional Development
The Early Adulthood is a stage that is faced by severe emotional conflicts that determine the success of any human being. At this point, the individual chooses a course of life regarding career; marriage collaborates, investment and business choices and social relationships. However, they may face severe adversity in that they may not attain their desired career or may experience hardships when venturing into new businesses. In addition to this, most people at this stage are in a marriage conflict because of the fear of marrying the wrong person, which may result in painful and brutal seasons at a future date. It is at this stage where the individual is prone to loss of self-esteem and personal confidence towards achieving any set goals and objectives (Berk, chapter 13.4). The most effective strategies at this stage to promote sustained emotional stability and intelligence is developing flexibility and adaptability to change.
In the life of any individual, Change is inevitable, and this means that they must approach change with confidence and high self-esteem, which will ensure that they make the best outcomes out of the available opportunities in change. A strong moral character is a tool to cope with situations of uncertainty where one can develop patience and commitment. Quality conflict resolution strategies are where the individual can analyze any situation that undermines their potential and realize the most effective ways to resolve the conflict and get back on track towards effective growth.
Strategies to social development
Social development is a significant factor of growth in the life of any individual at the early development stage. In this stage, the individual is prone to a risk of loneliness, which is a form of unhappiness because of the gap between current social relationships and the esteemed relationships. Such emotions arise when the individual lacks an intimate love partner or where they lack satisfying, stable friendships. In addition to this, the young adult may face a challenge as they seek people on the same mission growth in their career or adaptability to new environment and other cultures. Erikson theory explains the situation at early adulthood as a conflict between intimacy and isolation wherein the quest for a partner, most of the thoughts of the young person are as to whether to establish a permanent commitment to one person. He continues to explain that the young people are forced to re-establish their identity in order to accommodate their partners (Berk, chapter 13.4). Such conflicts are only resolved when the individual exhibits a high level of emotional intelligence and a sense of responsibility.
Some of the most significant strategies include establishing positive relationships with peers, parents and even teachers. Youth at this stage must have mentors as people they look up to for advice and counsel. Likewise, they must establish a sense of connection to institutions such as church, workplaces, and other community centers. Giving back to the community is an integral part of emotional growth, which brings a unique sense of fulfillment.
