Early Childhood Professional Development

I believe human diversity is more of a uniting factor than a dividing factor. Therefore, I appreciate and value human diversity in all its aspects. I also think that there is no right and wrong perceptive but just different points of view. I have grown as an early childhood professional as I listen to different perceptions people have on the best methods to promote early childhood development and learn from them. Also, I listen to children’s views, and ideas as being young doesn’t mean that they are wrong.

I am also committed to fostering healthy development in children. Healthy mental, emotional, and behavioral development for children is a critical foundation for productive adulthood (National Academies Press, 2019). It helps the children reach adulthood ready to thrive and contribute to the society. My commitment has helped me link better with children and understand them on a deeper level. I also understand the effects of unhealthy development from some people I have grown up with, so I endeavor to see that children don’t go through that.

However, I believe that I don’t have enough knowledge of the early childhood field. I have done some reading of professional journals, attended conferences, and networked with professionals, but I still feel I require more knowledge. I understand how the knowledge is essential in the field as it will lead to my development as an early childhood professional. However, I seek to acquire more information in the field through the various sources. I also strive to use the knowledge I will acquire to impact the lives of children currently around me.

I have also not advocated enough for children, families, and those who care for children. I, however, respect my relationship with them all. I have been keen to impact the children directly and forgotten how it is to advocate for them and those who care for them. I now understand that my direct efforts alone will not be enough for the effective development of children. I am now planning on doing this more often to increase my impact on children’s development.
