Baldridge Reflective Paper
Introduction
The Baldrige criteria frameworks are used in the determination of performance excellence by improving performance and achieving excellence. Since the inception of this framework, many organizations have used the framework to improve their organization’s effectiveness and achieve sustained results. This helps organizations find their strengths and the specific areas for improvements and prioritize those that can sustain the organization. The Baldrige concept can also be used by non-profit organizations too in achieving excellence. The framework uses core values and concepts used in high-performing organizations such as visionary leadership, focusing on success, ethics, transparency, societal responsibility, organizational learning, agility, valuing people, and customer-focused excellence. The Baldrige criteria are based on interrelated core values and concepts. These beliefs and behaviors are embedded in high-performance organizations and are the foundation for integrating key performance and operational requirements in results-oriented frameworks that create a basis for action, feedback, and for achieving success. This framework builds on the integrated performance management framework that the whole organization engages in improving its overall performance and striving towards excellence. The Baldrige framework values are intentionally non-prescriptive and do not tell the leaders how to manage their organizations. From learning the criteria characteristics, goals and purpose have remained constant but have evolved in keeping constant economic and opportunities by focusing on the results and the areas of performance in ensuring all strategies are balanced (Bandyopadhyay & Leonard, 2016). This supports a systematic perspective in maintaining organizational goal alignment for performance-oriented strengths and improve on the opportunities. There are various categories that make up the award criteria, such as leadership, which examines how senior executives guide and sustain the organization and how the organization addresses governance, ethical, legal, and community responsibilities. Strategic planning examines the organization in setti9ng strategic directions and how it determines and deploys the carious key action plans. Customers focus on how the organization determines the requirements and expectations of customers and markets. Measurements, analysis, and knowledge management in the use, analysis, and improvement of data and information. Workforce determines how the organization engages, manages, and develops activities aimed at accomplishing the organization’s work. Process management determines the aspects of how key production and delivery and support processes are designed, managed, and improved. Results examine the organization’s performance and improvement for effectiveness and leadership.
Discussion
The core values and concepts are the foundation used to integrate the critical business requirements in a results-oriented framework that can be used to create a basis for action and feedback (Brown, 2017). The Baldrige core values and concepts include visionary leadership. The organization’s seniors should set a vision for the organization, creating customer focus, and demonstrating clear and visible organizational values and ethics (Bandyopadhyay & Leonard, 2016). Another core value of Baldrige is focused customer excellence, where the customers are the ultimate judge of your performance of the end product and quality. Hence organizations must consider all the product and service characteristics and modes of customer access and support. Organizational learning includes both continuous improvements of existing approaches and significant change in the innovation, which could lead to new goals, approaches, and markets. A systems perspective means managing all the parts of the organization as a unified whole to achieve the organization’s mission and objectives. Valuing people where a successful organization values its workforce and the people who have a contribution towards the organization, including the customers, community members, suppliers, and partners to the organization. Focusing on success by ensuring that the organization’s long and short-term factors do not affect the organization’s success by encouraging long-term investments (Brown, 2017). Managing for innovation by making enhanced changed to improve the products, services of the business model. Innovation requires a supportive environment that can be used in establishing strategic opportunities for the business model. Management requires one to measure and analyze the organization’s performance to help gain a competitive advantage that can help the organization in evaluation for better alignment and make informed decision-making processes. Societal contributions where the organization’s leaders should emphasize the societal welfare and the benefit offered by being role models for the community (Bandyopadhyay & Leonard, 2016). Another core value is ethics and transparency, where an organization should emphasize ethical behavior to the employees and all the stakeholders in their interactions and transactions. The ethical behaviors’ role models should be the senior leaders who portray transparency by being open in their communication on leadership and management. The senior leaders should also share accurate information with the employee and to all the stakeholders. Delivering of values and results, whereby the organization chooses and analyzes the results that will help the organization deliver results to the stakeholders. The results should incorporate the financial results, products, process results, customer satisfaction results, and the leadership strategies that need to be employed for effective performance and better results.
Therefore, Baldrige is based on a systems perspective that incorporates all the components in an organization by emphasizing how the different aspects impact the organization (Brown, 2017). This concept helps leaders align and integrate their leadership strategies to the customer and market focus in producing better overall results for the organization. Using Baldrige as a management system helps in the determination of the best tools to be applied in the organization to help in the balance scorecard and the best choices that will help in effective improvements of the organization towards excellence. This concept works best if the leaders are willing to develop an organizational culture that is based on the core values in high performance and is willing to commit to long-term goals and objectives for continuous learning and improvement. Also, Baldrige can help create an emphasis on long-term strategic planning by integrating various aspects of a business model to the development and coordination of a strategic plan that can help an organization in financial performance. The Baldrige frameworks can help address the challenges faced and provide structure and guidance to the challenges by making a customer focus by improving planning and innovation to help the organization work as a whole unit with coordinated and focused direction to meet the organization’s goal and objectives. Through the Baldrige core values, they can help develop and sustain employee knowledge and satisfaction, which is essential for productivity and customer satisfaction. Through the core values, organizations can create focus by improving the organization’s different aspects for coordination, development, and implementation of the functional aspects that require culture change of the organization by creating continuous improvement. Baldrige creates a significant focus on leadership ethics and the organization’s social responsibility by emphasizing visionary leadership, which can help the organization achieve its goals and objectives.
