I rarely focus on a single task without being faced by the urge to shift my attention into another different task. For example, I seldom study without taking a look at my phone in every five minutes. This has inconvenienced me in completing various tasks and even projects on time.

People have been repeatedly focusing on different things at the same time. However, the level of multitasking among humans in the modern world surpasses the traditional world. This has been made possible by access to internet by use of computers (“genM: The Multitasking Generation,” 2006). Most people including kids find themselves multiprocessing tasks out of the influence of the internet. This has negatively affected people particularly kids.

I came up with several strategies to help in mitigating multitasking. These included: Waking up early at 5:00 am and getting ready to go to school early, avoiding distractions during class time, only using my phone when answering important messages, using my laptop for study purposes rather than entertainment and sleeping early at 9:00pm.

My plan was successful as I now wake up daily at 5:00 am. I rarely use my cell phone unless when undertaking a vital communication, in class I now pay full attention during all lessons without a single distraction.

At home, my self-discipline has greatly increased as I only focus on one thing at a time. I have set specific time for study and another time for entertainment.

I have learnt a lot about multitasking. It wastes a lot of time doing multiple tasks at the same time. In addition, dividing one’s attention diminishes their productivity. It also wastes a lot of energy that would be beneficial by focusing it on one task. Moreover, the self-study has helped me improve my weak points which were caused by dividing my attention to different tasks. The topic about multitasking really made me change my ways after realizing how much I sabotaged the quality of my life.
